Oh, I see. That is indeed sad if one is sad at such a blessed, happy time.Graverobber wrote:Sentrssllue wrote:I insist in the nicest way possible!![]()
And what does "mostly I guess" mean exactly?
And it means that sometimes Christmas can be sad/lonely for some...me included

Like many of you have already said, I believe that Christmas songs just aren't the same when they are redone by contemporary artists. I prefer traditional renditions, and for the most part, I prefer Christmas songs that actually talk about Jesus. Some non-religious ones are cute (gotta love "Grandma Got Runover by a Reindeer"), but I'm a person of faith and I like my Christmas music to reflect that.

This made me think of the quote from Harry Potter about being able to feel several things at once...rssllue wrote:Oh, I see. That is indeed sad if one is sad at such a blessed, happy time.So be happy!
That made me smile...mission accomplished russell!
I love religious Christmas songs but there are also so many non-religious songs that are great as well.LivreAmour217 wrote:Like many of you have already said, I believe that Christmas songs just aren't the same when they are redone by contemporary artists. I always love a good mix of both...
"I Saw Mamma Kissing Santa Clause" is just too cute too resist!
Has anyone heard "The Gift" by Garth Brooks?
This is such a beautiful song...I wish there were more versions of it.
What is grief, if not love persevering?
Grief is just love with no place to go.

I agree about "I Saw Mamma Kissing Santa Claus," it is a very cute song! My husband is a big country music fan, so I'll ask him if he's heard "The Gift"Graverobber wrote:This made me think of the quote from Harry Potter about being able to feel several things at once...rssllue wrote:Oh, I see. I was raised in a pretty religious household, so Christmas would always make my mom depressed because she wanted it to reflect our religion instead of the emphasis of presents and such that seem to be the highlight for everyone. She always loved the Elvis songs!LivreAmour217 wrote:My grandfather used to listen to a collection of Christmas songs by opera singer Mario Lanza (many of you may not have heard of him--he died in 1959). The songs are all traditional renditions and are very beautiful, plus they bring back wonderful childhood memories. I managed to find a copy of this Christmas album a few years back and have continued the tradition. Surprisingly, my ten-year-old son really enjoys it!

I think that's a great tradition! It sounds like a fun way to teach children about the true meaning of Christmas!ALynnPowers wrote:My family actually has a birthday cake on Christmas and sings Happy Birthday.rssllue wrote:Jesus has so many great birthday songs! Very cool!![]()

Billy Gilman's Christmas cd will always be a favorite...tradition and fun mixed...
And of course Dean Martin, Elvis (I love Blue Christmas), Frank Sinatra...too many to list

I listen to Bing Crosby & Frank Sinatra's Christmas albums the most...My favorite Christmas song is Baby, It's Cold Outside. But I also love the classic songs (O Holy Night, etc.)
What they mean to you?
I grew up in Church and still attend...so there is something extra comforting about certain traditional Christmas songs.
Who do you wish would release a Christmas/holiday cd?
This is a tough one... I'm not sure..But my guilty pleasure Christmas Album is NSYNC's... oh yeah I just admitted that!

Love this one tooThosHowellBookReview wrote:My fav is "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)", a song written by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, released in 1971 as a single by John & Yoko/Plastic Ono Band with the Harlem Community Choir.
I have a soft spot for Bert McCracken's version
But it's always a good song
