This is the place for readers of poetry. Discuss poetry and literary art. You can also discuss music here, including lyrics. Also, you can discuss poets themselves, in addition to poetry.

I have to think about it. Then change it. I can't just spew it out.
Think, believe, manifest.

I rarely write poetry but when I write fiction stories I never plan.
I always just write and it's like the story gets bigger the faster I type and when i'm finished of course i'd go through the story at the end and do any editing or fix anything not properly worded.

it honestly depends on my state of mind. For example, at school i went to the holocaust museum and the minute i got home i wrote this awesome poem in about 15 minutes, whilst other times its taken me an hour or even days to write a poem or story. it really depends.

Same here. While free-styling is very fun and, at times, therapeutic, the results are iffy. I would never try to pass off my freestyle work as actual poetry for anyone else to read unless I had polished it first.

If the poem/inspiration just hits me, then yes I can freestyle a poem. Most of the time inspiration strikes and I'll get varied degrees of freestyle and thought out lines.

Yes, that's the way I love it. When you are inspired and start writing from your heart and keep writing as the words comes up from inside. I write till it stops. Mostly when I want to express myself in a way only on paper and not with anyone else. Sometimes when I need to encourage someone to whom I will give it to afterwards. I tend to think that most poems expresses the feelings and thoughts of the writer at that point of time or season.
