I wrote this parody to the Raven....

The Sock and the Vine
(A Parody to the Raven)
Once upon a midnight doze,
I was awakened by a stench that alarmed my nose.
As the smell advanced to reek,
I heard random commotion and then an uttered shriek.
“Hello?” I asked. “Who is it that seems to speak?”
Nevertheless the annoyance did not cease,

And, alas! the wretched freak continued to disturb my sleep!
Determined upon ending the agitation, and my frustration,
I commenced through my chamber only to meet a reeking sock and a potted floral.
“Hear, hear you mortal beast what is this sudden quarrel?”
“The vexatious vine tried to eat me!” the little sock spoke.
“It was not me” stated the vine. “I am not the one to joke!”

Was I dreaming in my sleep? Or did those things just speak?
The sock spoke, “I plead, I plead, O Great Stinky Feet!
Must thou let me be consumed by this sneak?!”
Am I crazy? Was I mad? Or did this sock just appear meek?
I glanced at the vine, and then at the sock.
And then I woke up, still in a shock.



As for Poe.... he's a weird person. But his writing is very distinguishable. I like to read a little of his works here and there but I'm not into the whole Goth literature. Still, The Raven is a great poem! Very eloquent, indeed.

I love that poem

I love anything by Edgar Allan Poe, especially the Raven. I got hooked on him after watching the tv show The Following; which is completely dedicated to him and his works

Poe is a great author, my boyfriend's mother's absolute favorite. She even has fake ravens that she uses to decorate with.

I see that poem as a depiction of the idea that our losses and our sins come back to haunt us. Poe's narrator talks often about "the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels named Lenore," who is his loss and, from what seems to be in the verses, perhaps a former object of his more abusive side, if that be the most appropriate word... Interestingly, Poe used her name in another poem which was entitled, in fact, "Lenore." It's a dialogue. An interesting one. I think "The Raven" is definitely one of the best poems Poe wrote, along with, of course, "Ulalume," "The Bells," "Annabel Lee," "The City in the Sea," "For Annie," "Al Araaf," and "Israfel." Poe is just... well he's just terrific... in every sense of the word. Some people, from this and other works of his, tried to produce proof of the theory that Poe was insane, and they've concocted several mental conditions he "might have" had parts of. Interesting, isn't it? Brilliance is always just a symptom of insanity to people... Maybe it's true. I do have to say that nobody with great talent is entirely normal, are they?
