Nathrad Sheare wrote:I want to see the movie "Quartet" for its soundtrack, a compilation of some of the great operatic selections and chamber works, and for its lead actress, Maggie Smith. I've read reviews that say the music and the movie are perfectly harmonized. I guess I'll see!
Beautiful movie IMO but sad - Maggie was her brilliant self & other superb performances too. Enjoy

Another old-timer I thought of was Stanley Wilson. He was a composer for Republic Pictures for several years, then went into TV. He did some pretty good soundtracks for King of the Rocketmen, Zombies of the Stratosphere, Roy Rogers, Rex Allen, and other cowboy movies, etc. and later for TV shows such as the first season of M Squad, Wagon Train, Dragnet, The Munsters and many, many more.

I LOVED "Requiem for a Dream!" It was a piercing piece, one that struck just the right chord for me. Speaking of "Requiem" songs, I also really liked the one chosen for the "Breaking Dawn" soundtrack, "Requiem on Water." Heard it? It's not choral, but it's sublime!

The Great Gatsby soundtrack is phenomenal, and The Grey's soundtrack is very dark, but it's quite beautiful. Goes perfectly with the movie.

Morning Suzy. Havent seen you for a while. Ive still got a few records and a phonograph, but I havent played it in years.

I heard kind of an interesting soundtrack a while back. It was from some cheezy movie from around 1959 or so. The Choppers with Arch Hall Jr. Stupid movie about car strippers, looked like it was made by 13 year olds. But it had cool music, kind of a cross between bop and rock by Alexander Courage. Cool stuff.

Those are great ones. Also Oklahoma, thats one of my favorites.

Ive been listening to some Crimejazz the last little while. Duke Ellington's Anatomy Of A Murder, Count Basies M Squad, Mancinis Peter Gunn and so on.

Ive got this one old record album Ive had for years by Les Baxter, Its from one of those 60's Roger Corman flicks, Master Of The World with Vincent Price. Its not too bad a soundtrack. Baxter made some pretty cool stuff back then. Poor People Of Paris, Ports of Pleasure were among his best.
