Grease and Xanadu, those are two of my favorites.

Which reminds me Ive got an album by a group called Xanadu Pleasure Dome. Its music from Bonanza and High Chapperall, the TV shows. Pretty cool stuff. its kind of a 70's upbeat thing, part country and part pop. It was sent by mistake from a record club we belonged to back then. I was going to send it back but after listening to it decided to keep it. Great album, one song on it The Guns Of Johnny Rondo was on the charts for a time.

I personally enjoyed the soundtrack from Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette. While I acknowledge the mixed reviews of the film itself, I think the soundtrack is fun, bright, and provides the "pop" that was intended for the film. The blend of 80s new wave and modern indie tunes highly contrasts the classical concertos providing an exciting and unpredictable listening experience for the audience.

Last night I watched that Casper the Ghost movie that came out some years ago. I thought it would be stupid, the Casper cartoons were dumb, but it was a very good and entertaining movie. It had an impressive soundtrack by James Horner and a couple pretty good songs including a rockin version of Casper the Friendly Ghost by Little Richard.

James Horner is my sister's absolute favorite film composer. Howard Shore comes in second for her. Then Danny Elfman. Then Hanz Zimmer. Her favorite thing Horner has composed so far is the score of the movie, "Avatar." It really is pretty awesome in some parts. I really, REALLY liked his score for "Casper." I don't know, the main theme is just so dreamlike... I waited ten years after I reached the preteen era to see it again, and like you, Bighuey, I wasn't expecting the music I didn't remember to be near as enchanting as it was. I really like being surprised. :D

I just saw "The Desolation of Smaug" the other day and had to watch both of the "Hobbit" movies that have been released. My, Howard Shore is an astounding composer... My favorite in films for dang sure. I can't wait for the last installment to be released. After that, I want it all, every note on CD. They're already contemplating a complete collection of the "Lord of the Rings" and "Hobbit" film music, deleted scenes and everything included. Anticipation, anticipation... If I don't get it... I eats them whole...

Ive got a CD of Horners Searching For Bobby Fisher. Its kind of a dream-like thing, something you can go to sleep to.

I wasnt that impressed with The Hobbit, I didnt think it was near as good as LOTR. But the music was great and maybe the second movie will be better. Id like to get all that music in one collection if it ever comes out.

Another one like that I would like to have is the original 1952 13 hour soundtrack from Richard Rodgers Victory At Sea. Ive got three of the albums, but I dont know if they ever came out with the complete thing or not. I read somewhere that was the most ambitious soundtrack for any TV show or movie.

The works of:
Joe Hisaishi (Miyazaki films)
Hans Zimmer
John Williams

*Not necessarily in that order.

Also Les Miserables--the play, not so much the movie. I know the music is essentially the same but the performances by a Broadway cast is far superior to the movie, eg. Russell Crowe.
