To Jakespeare: I'm definitely a "mood in the moment" person. When it's dark and cold outside, it's usually NIN or something a bit lighter like Pink Floyd. Sunnier days are definitely dubstep.

For me it's usually classical but I've been known to listen to folk songs while reading. I even sing along while reading which I wasn't aware I did until my OH drew my attention to it recently ... whether it's singing or croaking is a matter of opinion.

The XX they do have lyrics but I feel as though the songs are extremely mellow and get you in the mood for a good semi dramatic love story.

I read Thomas hardy's "The Mayor of Casterbridge" while listening to Carl Orff's cantata, "Carmina Burana," and Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" to Puccini's "Tosca," but chose Laura Brannigan as my singer friend while I cringed my way through Jack London's "White Fang." For me, whatever music I'm in the mood for usually goes. Heck, I kept the soundtrack of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" going while I worked my way through "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde." Yup, anything goes when I'm wrapped up in prose.

Something pretty minimalist. Not quite John Cage's 4'33", but not far off.

Right now, I'm listening to Hotel Costes - very nice light club music to read to. :)

Thanks to the new(ish) movie The Wolf of Wall Street I discovered Henry Purcell so I've been listening to a lot of him lately. It's working well with Red Dragon, particularly this set: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9tBcheUBuw

Henry Purcell was an exceptional one. His songs, operas, and concerti contain some of my favorite Baroque music.

I prefer silence, but sometimes I listen to some classical music, especially before I go to bed, or I just turn on the radio :)

I always have to have a dose of opera before bed. When I read, though, I like to find a piece that really fits the mood of the book I'm reading at the moment. Sometimes that's Tchaikovsky... Sometimes Mozart... Sometimes the darkest organ music I can get my hands on... Whahhhhhtever. :D
