How do you read poetry?

This is the place for readers of poetry. Discuss poetry and literary art. You can also discuss music here, including lyrics. Also, you can discuss poets themselves, in addition to poetry.

I usually follow poets on social media and read what they post or Google poets whose work speaks to me and read more.

I usually buy a book or two, when I am in the mood, or when someone gives me a recommendation. Sometimes a good quote or excerpted passage sparks an interest.

Reading poetry requires the heart more than the mind. Using emotion in your words amplifies the emotion that the author was trying to express in the words. Reading poetry correctly means that the emotion travels through you to your audience. You are the conduit for the author’s ideas.

Typically I look in the poetry section of my library for a collection that stands out to me.

Then, I read through each poem in the collection twice; the first read-through is to just get a feel for the poem, and the second read is so I can look for literary devices, figurative language, etc. etc.

If I fall in love with the collection, then I look around local used book stores for a copy!

If you want more suggestions on how to get the most out of poetry, I would totally suggest Sound and Sense. I'm pretty sure it's not being printed anymore, but you can probably find it used online. It's just a really comprehensive set of suggestions, and it helped me so much, especially when I have to write essays on poetry for a course.

Happy reading! :techie-studyinggray:

Online sometimes, but most times the book comes much better of a deal for me

Both.
The poetry books takes you on this really intense journey. Them poet is driving you to where he or she wants you to be next.

But also, single poems. And single poems are better to address the mood you are in at the moment. You can choose what to read depending on what you feel like.

Buying a complete book of poem is good but for me, I will end up finding some I don't like and it feels like a waste of money. So I just check online for single poems

Before, I had this collection of poetry books. I would love to read it during nighttime or when I’m bored and then note of my favorites. Now, I lost the fire.

I believe that if you simply read a few poems at a time, you will be able to enjoy poetry more fully.

I don’t think there is a substandard place where read a collection of poetry. Google, after all, is an excellent engine for this concern. However, it would help if you also considered buying a physical book; it will make you happy.
