Who would you write a poem, a song or a lyric for?

This is the place for readers of poetry. Discuss poetry and literary art. You can also discuss music here, including lyrics. Also, you can discuss poets themselves, in addition to poetry.

My child.

When I had my daughter she became my first for everything. Everything I thought I knew everyone I thought I put first it all went out of the window. I’d dedicate everything to her t this very moment if I had to. And that goes for any future children I might have as well.

I would write it for my friends about our teen years when we were going to the concerts, pogo, about all that traveling on the train, all the hangouts we had before we became adults, funny and stupid :) things we did because we simply didn't care. I would write it about my hometown streets that are telling stories from 60s to today and people who were raised by those streets.

I write a lot and my poems are mostly dedicated to my partner and sometimes to my parents.

I have three poems that I wrote for the love of my life. I'm no longer with them but I'd still like to write them poems. They continue to inspire me.

I usually write a poem to God and to myself. Somehow those poems serves as my prayer and a reminder to myself as well.

Now, this is an interesting question with interesting options. I will always choose myself, except when I cannot. So, I will rather spend time writing poetry for myself for now. That may change in the future.

John Owen wrote: 26 Feb 2020, 02:43 Which of the following would you spend your time to pen down that amazing piece for and why?
1. God
2. Yourself
3. Your parents
4. Your Girl/boyfriend or spouse
5. Your children.
I think it depends on how I am feeling.

I have written poems to myself, and I have written for my Mom too. I have never written to God, as I believe He knows how I feel even better than myself. I would love to write a poem for everyone (on the list) at one point and feel inspired by it.

All of them would make good referrals for the poems.
A different main theme could be presented with each one. I would love to write about them and for them all.

If I ever did write one of a poem, lyric , or song. It'd be for my parents. I would be honored to write a song for Rihanna. She's the greatest.

I think your list overlooks an important group—friends. My poetry tends to be inspired by wishing I could help my friends when they're having a rough time with their mental health. I also tend to write the most (topic-wise) about love, and I think platonic love is just as important as familial and romantic.

I would write a poem to anyone who could relate to it. I think I dedicated my works to the general public but if I will choose a one subject of my poem. Then it will be none other than me. Or my current inspiration. A dear friend. Someone close to me. A family. Or a stranger.
