Is music of the past better than today?

Post by Kassiopei »

Although I was born in this generation, I still feel myself gravitating towards the more nostalgic and disco-funk songs of the 70s-2000s.

Absolutely yes for me. I enjoy old country music more than any other. Most people say it's wierd.

Yes, I agree. Music of the past is better than music today. However, I try to find artists I like in the present to enjoy. Good thing we can always go down memory lane and listen to old records.

I always thought older music was better too, having never really enjoyed the stuff played on the radio or in the charts. However, great current bands do exist, they just need to be sought out a little more in my experience.

I'm inclined to say yes as well. I think now with the Internet there are lower barriers to producing music and what is considered "music" has been expanded. There will eventually be young people who love the pop we today consider trash. There is really a sad lack of psychedelic rock created recently, so I'm hoping there might be a revival in the future!

Yes, I agree. Though the music now has more beats to it, I love the music from the older generations. They're simply just classic music and have more quality in the lyrics. Nowadays, I feel like our music is very mainstream.

Music of the past definitely had more meaning than that of these days in terms of lyrics. I do however find that music of nowadays has more advanced instrumentals than that of the past. So in both times, they have their strong points.

In terms of lyrics and meaning, songs of the past are better. Songs today are just catchy snd no meaning at all. Like some kpop songs that kids like today.

No. Music nowadays has modern elements which make it so good one can almost reach out and kiss it.

Yes. Music of today is quite subtle and artists just write what they think of not something meaningful and relevant.

It might seem so but its not. Actually music is in constant conversation with the past while laying the foundation for what is to come. Present music is from the past but more like an improved version of it. Take for example Maria by Santana and Wyclef; Dj Khaled Channels the same rhythm into wild thoughts but more better than the original.

There is a video discussing about this on YouTube. Basically, it says that the "old songs" that become "classic" today are only a small percentage of the songs released during the era, which means that the rest of them are considered bad, thus aren't as timeless. It also means that today's songs aren't entirely bad, and it mostly depends on the current trend as well as personal preferences.
