Country Music

Post by morganinga »

Who are your favorite country artists? I dont like the more mainstream people, but people like Chase Rice and Jimmy Wayne that people do not really know about.

Is country music popular where you are from?

I've listened to it on and off over the years. Mmmm ladies love outlaws Waylon, Willie, David Allen Coe, Jerry Jeff Walker, George Strait, The Oak Ridge Boys...sometimes their politics annoy me but those guys can sing...Darius Rucker has one of the best voices in any kind of music.

I like Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Sleepy LaBeef, Charley Pride, Hank Sr. and Jr. Waylon, and for the real oldies Tex Ritter, Eddie Dean, Rex Allen, Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, and of course Roy and Gene. Theres many more these are just a few.

Speaking of David Allen Coe, I used to have an 8-track tape of his doing X-rated party songs and what they used to call coon songs. It was really raunchy.

I grew up on country music. I have a lot of artists in this genre I REALLY like, but I think my favorites are Dolly Parton and Vince Gill. There's great stuff from each. Vince Gill's voice is kind of beautiful, I think.

Yes it is where I come from. One country artist I am disappointed is Taylor Swift. I used to really like her now that she is doing more pop, I'm kind of backing away

I am going to go way back. Kitty Wells, The Singing Brakeman, Jimmie Rodgers, and of course, Hank Williams and Loretta Lynn. I love what Jack White is doing in Nashville and his recordings with Loretta Lynn and Wanda Jackson's great Rockabilly stuff. I've always loved Texas songwriters, Jerry Jeff Walker, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Willie Nelson. And I think the stuff Nitty Gritty Dirt Band did with some of the old bluegrass bands was brilliant. Also, Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys last recording with Merle Haggard was wonderful.

I love country music and bluegrass/folk like Ryan Bingham, Drive By Truckers, and the Steeldrivers. I was so excited to pick up a paid review of an audiobook here by Dick Flood, a classic country giant from back in his day. I hate to say it, but his Swampwise was a total bust. Anyone here familiar with any of his more mainstream music?

Country music is fairly popular in the USA, but where I'm from we don't get to hear any of it, so I have no preference, although I've listened to something in the past.

I grew up surrounded by country music. I didn't get much of a choice on what music I listened to when I was younger. Everyone that I knew listened to country. Now that I'm older, I listen to a variety of music instead of sticking to one genre. If I had to choose, I would say that my favorite country artists are Jason Aldean, Darius Rucker, and Kane Brown.
