Kyrielle

Post by FNAWrite »

Actually a variation on a kyrielle, which is actually the subtitle, not a preface.

In Celebration of the Absence of a Bit of Silk
(A Variation on a Kyrielle)

Oh, blessed day, the gods did smile
to grant me respite from life's trials.
An evening with a lady fair
who wasn't wearing underwear.

My Lady wore no underwear.

I see her and my heart doth leap
to joy so great I fain would weep.
She stands atop the gilded stair,
I see she wears no underwear.

My Lady wore no underwear.

She descends, Venus comes to earth,
robbing fair Helen of all worth,
Cleopatra could not compare
('tho she never wore underwear).

My Lady wore no underwear.

Just as fast as love's wings may go
we fly to sup and thence a show,
but I've no taste for beefsteak rare
when she's not wearing underwear.

My Lady wore no underwear.

The show, a play by Oscar Wilde,
clever, witty - I never smiled.
I thought nought of his savoir faire
't only of missing underwear.

My Lady wore no underwear.

After, in a beflowered court,
(contemplating some later sport),
the blossoms have perfumed the air -
or is it - no, no, I just don't dare.

But my Lady wore no underwear.

This is a funny one... I liked the "archaic" touches you added to a modern concept... I'm assuming you wrote this? The language is clear and unintimidating. I think this is one of those little pieces which show that an old style isn't necessarily outdated. Honestly, I've never read a poem like it, and I've read hundreds... Witty, FNAWrite. I was pleased to see all the Elizabethan terms used properly.

Thank you.

I like my poetry to be clear and unintimidating, easy to 'get'. My hope is that in this expression my enjoyment of the circumstance be nearly palpable.

I think others have said it, but I was unaware of it having been said when I also said it: Poets speak the truth; we just lie about it.

More faith have I not in many a truth more than in this! Ha, ha! I like the way you and, perhaps, others, have put it!
