Music you didn't expect to like, but did.

This is the place for readers of poetry. Discuss poetry and literary art. You can also discuss music here, including lyrics. Also, you can discuss poets themselves, in addition to poetry.

Some years back I heard the song Rude by magic and I was not impressed. But somehow it ended up being my favorite song of the time.

Reggae music, but nowadays I listen to some and appreciate how informative they can be, especially those by Lucky Dube.

I didn't like reggae music when growing up but now, I can admit to listening to it on daily basis, especially Bob Marley.

I think it’s Chasing Stars by Alesso featuring Marshmello. I find this first unlikable because of the idea that it has been a fave song of my ex-boyfriend. However, as I tried to listen to it, it was awe-inspiring.

I never thought I would find myself enjoying any sort of rock music. However, a few years back, I fell in love with a book called The Hate List by Jennifer Brown. Inside her author's note, she mentioned how a line in Nickelback's song If Everyone Cared inspired the characters in her story and created an overall vision for her. Once that was done, I immediately ran to listen to the song. At first, I was shocked by the intense beats because it wasn't anything like I was used to. However, after listening a few more times, I found myself falling in a downward spiral, first listening to every Nickelback song, and then moving on to listen to a ton of Skillet music too. Since then, I have been obsessed and people still go into shock whenever they find out I listen to this type of music.

The music I didn’t expect to like is Jazz music. Because jazz is based on improvisation, each artist's version of the same song will sound different. As a result, we will never get any Jazz songs stuck in our brain. Also, listening to jazz music helps my brain stay focused and relaxed during work or doing something.

I don't really like Nigerian music though I am a Nigerian. Their music has shallow lyrics. But some Nigerian beats are cooked to be so infectious that you don't even know when you start nodding to it. Then you are already loving it. This Nigerian song Peru by a Nigerian artist called Fireboy is one of such. The song even features Ed She er an on the remix

I actually never expected to like R&B as I've been listening to rock for the majority of my life. But I did discover to like it, and I listen to it regularly now.

Like That by PSY (ft. Suga). When I first listened to it I felt eh kind of weird but then it won't just get out of my head! The chorus part with choreo. Out of nowhere, I would start screaming, "Like that Like that" while dancing the main chorus part. Ugh!
