Untitled Love Poem by me

Post by jamespoet »

Even though you say you suffer
from the hell of winter allergies,
I’m willing to bet you still look
like Cleopatra in an Egyptian summer,
as she moves to captivate Marc Antony
in the seduction of the goddess.

Your eyes, the cunning behind your hair—
perhaps I am delusional, but if so then I don’t
mind the hysteria; for you are the feline of my
eternal dreamscape, the aphrodisiac to send
me back home into your arms, delirious

& without another need in the world. I am
yours, my goddess, take me home tonight.

James,

I wondered how you would get the "platonic love" to work within specifically your poetry. You lived up to my expectations. :-) Thank-you for sharing this little piece of your heart, for that is what I believe poetry is.
I have always leaned toward free verse, but have you ever tried any of the other styles as well?

Well to answer your question Amanda, while I only touched on romantic love in this poem, I have written a couple of pieces on various friendships I have made. For instance, I wrote a poem for my classmates with whom I graduated high school; for the life of me I cannot remember where I filed it, but once I find it I will be more than happy to post it.
The joys of literature transcend the evils of the world. I believe in its miraculious baptism and emotional power of the words trickling down the page. To me, there is no higher artform...

James,
You are so right. It isn't platonic love. I must have been tired when I wrote that. Haha. I am glad you do what you love. I am terrible at writing poetry and try to stay as far away from composing it as I can. You do a brilliant job at it though.

I like how it sounds conversational yet at the same time poetic.
