Laughter

Post by Kavita Shah »

Whistle, the wind blows
Softly caressing my cheeks
It blows over my free hair
Making it's way towards the trees

Standing there since they were planted
Making shadows tall and slanted
While the children play tag around it
Laughing in the breeze

This is beautiful. How do you write poems. I have tried, but nothing ever comes to me. I envy you and hope to learn one day. Your poem is truly beautiful.

Thank you very much for liking the poem, Donald! I'm still learning as I write. I was imagining wind and trees and my hair flying around, and in the distance were children laughing and playing. And this is the final product.
You don't have to be a poet to write poems. So write whatever comes to mind and share here.
It's all about observing and making up stories in a poetic way.
Look at anything, out of the window, inside your house, or look in the mirror. What do you see?

Think about it's appearance, your memories, or create some story with it and jot down your thoughts, it might or might not be poetic, but that's one step.
Then make sentences that rhyme when paired together.

Suppose that you're looking at a table. Then you write your thoughts of what you see and relate with it, like color brown, it has four legs, old, beautiful carvings, etc.
Here is what I thought of as I was writing the above passage.

I see a beautifully carved table
Standing on four legs
It's brown and old
And it has been here since I was twelve.

(It has been here even before I remember, but I made up 12 since it was rhyming when I read the poem in my head)
