Millworker

by

James Taylor

Now my grandfather was a sailor, he blew in off the water.
My father was a farmer and I, his only daughter.
Took up with a no good millworking man from Massachusetts
who dies from too much whiskey and leaves me these three faces to feed.

Millwork ain't easy, millwork ain't hard, millwork it ain't nothing but an awful boring job.
I'm waiting for a daydream to take me through the morning
and put me in my coffee break where I can have a sandwich and remember.

Then it's me and my machine for the rest of the morning,
for the rest of the afternoon and the rest of my life.

Now my mind begins to wander to the days back on the farm.
I can see my father smiling at me, swinging on his arm.
I can hear my granddad's stories of the storms out on Lake Erie
where vessels and cargoes and fortunes and sailors' lives were lost.

Yes, but it's my life has been wasted, and I have been the fool
to let this manufacturer use my body for a tool.
I can ride home in the evening, staring at my hands,
swearing by my sorrow that a young girl ought to stand a better chance.

So may I work the mills just as long as I am able
and never meet the man whose name is on the label.

It be me and my machine for the rest of the morning
and the rest of the afternoon, gone for the rest of my life.

I love Mad World! Especially those lyrics
And I find it kinda funny, I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take
When people run in circles it's a very very
mad world mad world

Some really great songs in this forum. Thanks to everyone for sharing their views. I found three really good songs in this forum.
When people say you've changed, it just means that you have stopped living your life, their way.

There's this song called Moon by an alternative rock band named Fossil. The band is not popular. But the lyrics of the song is well crafted. So smartly done. And I call it 'intelligent rock ' And I love it even more when I saw the video of the song on YouTube.

I absolutely love country music. The lyrics always draw me in. Little people understand this, but I have always been a "words" person. Any music with proper lyrics and I'll listen to it ?

I think Fleetwood Mac songs have great lyrics (Stevie Nicks is a great writer.) Joy Divisions "Love will tear us apart" is one of my favorites too.
Stevie Nicks is indeed a great writer. I love "The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac. It is such a dope song. I fell in love with it the first time I heard it.

From The Dining Table - Harry Styles

Woke up alone in this hotel room
Played with myself, where were you?
Fell back to sleep, I got drunk by noon
I've never felt less cool
We haven't spoke since you went away
Comfortable silence is so overrated
Why won't you ever be the first one to break?
Even the phone misses your call, by the way
I saw your friend that you know from work
He said you feel just fine
I see you gave him my old T-shirt
More of what was once mine
I see it's written, it's all over his face
Comfortable silence is so overrated
Why won't you ever say what you want to say?
Even my phone misses your call, by the way
Maybe one day you'll call me and tell me that you're sorry too
Maybe one day you'll call me and tell me that you're sorry too
Maybe one day you'll call me and tell me that you're sorry too
But you, you never do
Woke up the girl who looked just like you
I almost said your name
We haven't spoke since you went away
Comfortable silence is so overrated
Why won't you ever say what you want to say?
Even my phone misses your call
We haven't spoke since you went away
Comfortable silence is so overrated
Why won't you ever say what you want to say?
Even my phone misses your call, by the way

Twenty One Pilots always has consistently incredible lyrics which I think is pretty rare today. I mostly listen to songs for their lyrics. Recently I’ve been really into “Holy” by PVRIS. “Disenchanted” by My Chemical Romance, “Cherry Wine” by Hozier, “Somebody to Love” by Queen, and “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls are all great.

There are many other songs I'd like to mention, but as someone said, this is an English-speaking forum.

Like ice, like ember,
