I like Hayley Williams song Airplanes, Hey Monday for their song entitled Candles, Meg and Dia for Bored with your love and last but not the least is Bruno Mars for his song Just the way you are.

not in particular order but these songs have always touch my heart:
Have i told you lately (Rod Stewart)
Slipping through my fingers (abba)
Man in the mirror (michael jackson)
She (Michael Bubble)

The lyrics of these songs articulate what the heart of the songwriter speaks.

There are so many but one I particularly love is A Pair of Brown Eyes by the Pogues ... is is a sublimely beautiful love song.
We fade away, but vivid in our eyes
A world is born again that never dies.

I personally have just fell in love with Snuff by Slipknot (and yes i plan to annoy you all with this song until you have heard it...) and so i vote for it. Heehee!

Bury all your secrets in my skin
Come away with innocence and leave me with my sins,
The air around me still feels like a cage
And love is just a camouflage for what resembles rage again.
So if you love me let me go
And run away before I know,
My heart is just too dark to care
I can't destroy what isn't there.
Deliver me into my fate
If I'm alone I cannot hate,
I don't deserve to have you
Ooh, my smile was taken long ago
If I can change I hope I never know.
I still press your letters to my lips
And cherish them in parts of me that savor every kiss
I couldn't face a life without your lights
But all of that was ripped apart when you refused to fight.
So save your breath, I will not care
I think I made it very clear
You couldn't hate enough to love
Is that supposed to be enough?
I only wish you weren't my friend
Then I could hurt you in the end,
I never claimed to be a saint
Ooh, my own was banished long ago
It took the death of hope to let you go.
So break yourself against my stones
And spit your pity in my soul,
You never needed any help
You sold me out to save yourself.
And I won't listen to your shame
You ran away, youre all the same,
Angels lie to keep control
Ooh, my love was punished long ago
If you still care don't ever let me know
If you still care don't ever let me know.

When i think about the song which text is poetry for me i remember a Selin Dion song "Because you love me"
For all those times you stood by me
For all the truth that you made me see
For all the joy you brought to my life
For all the wrong that you made right

For every dream you made come true
For all the love I found in you
I'll be forever thankful, baby

You're the one who held me up
Never let me fall
You're the one who saw me through
Through it all

You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn't speak
You were my eyes when I couldn't see
You saw the best there was in me

Lifted me up when I couldn't reach
You gave me faith 'cause you believed
I'm everything I am
Because you loved me, ooh, baby

You gave me wings and made me fly
You touched my hand I could touch the sky
I lost my faith, you gave it back to me
You said no star was out of reach

You stood by me and I stood tall
I had your love, I had it all
I'm grateful for each day you gave me

Maybe, I don't know that much
But I know this much is true
I was blessed because
I was loved by you

I love good lyrics to songs ~ those were nice. One of my daughters used to love Slipknot. And I enjoyed "Because You Love Me." It's not just the music to songs that catches me, although, I enjoy good music. :)

Hero by Mariah Carey or the X Factor contestants in 2008 has some very powerful lyrics, as well as being a great song.

This is a great song by a band call Street Dogs, this song made tears well up.

Final Transmission

He had just turned nineteen yesterday
Wanted to be a school teacher someday
Came from a small and modest town
Had never before traveled abroad

He signed on the promise of a college fund
Pop and Mom begged him to stay at home
The last time they saw him was at an airport
He hugged his distraught mother a final time

He went abroad to serve when he was only nineteen
Reality caught up with him, stole a heart full of dreams

He's never gonna get a chance to chase all those hopes
Lost them all amidst this war and smoke
Can you hear the sound of youth negated?
Watch on TV names are taken
Mother, Mother
My final transmission

Paris Island was plain hell on earth
Got gunny yelling at him, "better prove your worth"
Moved on to Baghdad about six months on
Caught an IED today, now he is gone

He went abroad to serve when he was only nineteen
Reality caught up with him, stole a heart full of dreams

He's never gonna get a chance to chase all those hopes
Lost them all amidst this war and smoke
Can you hear the sound of youth negated?
Watch on TV names are taken
Mother, Mother
My final transmission

Dad and Mom I am your only loving son
Hid a written final transmission under my helmet
Love you both in heart and mind
A better set of parents no boy could ever find
Weep for me and say thy prayers
Remember me through all your years
Only got to serve for six months on and
If you're reading this I have passed and gone

So I harbor my final request
A letter in my memory please send
Off to the President and all his men
Begging him with others to bring the troops back home
He's never gonna get a chance to chase all those hopes
Lost them all amidst the war and smoke
Can you hear the sound of youth negated?
Watch on TV names are taken

He's never gonna get a chance to chase all those hopes
Lost them all amidst this war and smoke
Can you hear the sound of youth negated?
Why are all those young lives taken?
Mother, Mother
My final transmission

Whitney Houston - I have nothing

Take my love, I'll never ask for too much
Just all that you are and everything that you do

She had a great unique voice. I feel so sad when I see how bad ended her career :(

Well, I like Jordin Sparks and Train's songs because their lyrics are really good and has a deep meaning that sometimes when I listen to their song it makes me cry.

You're right, Jordin Sparks has songs with very beautiful lyrics. The best for me are the words from Tattoo:

You're still a part of everything I do
You're on my heart just like a tattoo

This song, lyrically, is a personal favorite of mine. It's called "Epilogue", and it's by The Antlers.

In a nightmare, I am falling from the ceiling into bed beside you
You're asleep, I'm screaming, shoving you to try to wake you up
And like before, you've got no interest in the life you live when you're awake
Your dreams still follow storylines, like fictions you would make

So I lie down against your back, until we're both back in the hospital
But now it's not a cancer ward, we're sleeping in the morgue
Men and women in blue and white, they are singing all around you
With heavy shovels holding earth, you're being buried to you neck
In that hospital bed, being buried quite alive now
I'm trying to dig you out but all you want is to be buried there together

You're screaming
And cursing
And angry
And hurting me
And then smiling
And crying
Apologizing

I've woken up, I'm in our bed, but there's no breathing body there beside me
Someone must have taken you while I was stuck asleep
But I know better as my eyes adjust
You've been gone for quite a while now, and I don't work there in the hospital
(They had to let me go)

When I try to move my arms sometimes, they weigh too much to lift
I think you buried me awake (my one and only parting gift)
But you return to me at night just when I think I may have fallen asleep
Your face is up against mine, and I'm too terrified to speak

You're screaming
And cursing
And angry
And hurting me
And then smiling
And crying
Apologizing

I find the whole album to be incredibly moving, though.

An honorable mention to The Decemberists. I really like the 19th-century themes that most of their lyrics have. Ha.

And kudos to the guy from 2009 whose one and only post was about The Mountain Goats.
