But it should be a slow soothing music of a low volume and perfect instrumentals. A loud music will otherwise disorient you.

Not really. I end up paying more attention to the music than to the stuff I have to write.

Oh yes, so much creativity and wisdom in the songs I listen to, really helpful in my writing.

Music doesn't help me write as much as it helps me to read. As long as it's a familiar song, it helps me to concentrate.

Music or the lyrics itself may have some ideas or give something to write about.

Writing to me is focus, creativity, and imagination; I can't focus if I am listening to music. If I have heard that music a hundred times, only then I can focus on something else while listening to it. Else I would close my eyes, feel the emotions and detract from my work. :techie-studyinggray:

I agree with a lot of people here. I can listen to most types of music while I write, but I have to be familiar with the music. If I'm not, I tend to get so caught up in it that I'm not thinking about what I'm writing. And I do love writing inspired by music. I've written a number of things inspired by Elton John, who I love!

No, music does not help me write. My writing sessions require deep thinking: which is only achievable in silence. :D

I play music when I'm writing, using headphones. It helps to reduce distractions.

Classic music is great, as is ambient. I spent 90 minutes writing yesterday, all to some pounding techno. It really helped me through. With classical, sometimes I relax overly and am too soothed. That electronic stuff sorted me out!

Listening to Swan Lake while I write usually serves to inspire me.

Music gives me a lot of inspiration to write. I find myself creating playlists for writing specific stories, or to set the mood for writing in general.

If I'm listening to something with a particularly interesting instrumental, it inspires me to write lyrics. If I'm writing something academic or professional, I find that it's best if I listen to binaural beats or classical music, otherwise my brain gets distracted with listening to and analysing the lyrics.

Definitely depends on the music. With pop music, I just want to sing along and dance to it. With classical music, I find that I can focus really well.
