Music For Studying?

I recently asked my class topper what he did to get such good marks and he replied that he listened to rock music while studying. There was no sarcasm in his voice so i tried it out. First by pop music which didn't work and then by rock which also didn't yield any positive results. But it did help while studying mathematics. Now i study maths while listening to music but sometimes you tend to get lost in the lyrics and in no time 2 hours pass by. Thus i am going to go back to the normal method of studying.

What are your experiences regarding this topic?

The best music, I've listened to would be classical music. It helps keep my mind in a state of serenity which allows me retain knowledgeable information I need. There has been a study on how classical music, particularly Mozart, enhances your IQ levels while studying.

I can't study when listening to music. I always end up listening to the words and getting distracted. I sometimes listen to music in other languages though, that's not too bad. Maybe classical music would help.

:( Same here....and classic music doesn't help as well. But you could give it a try.

Well for me, I do listen to pop music while studying, but rarely. I think it's easier to concentrate if you don't listen to music because as mentioned above, it definitely is easy to get distracted. But whenever I need some 'background noise' when studying, I always turn to my favourite pop songs in the end.

It can be distracting but I just wanted to get my say in. Classical, Jazz, or Chillhop are good options. Chillhop is a subgenre of hip-hop and blends jazz elements with hip-hop beats and electronic music, I like that stuff a lot.

My family can be very rowdy, so I actually go to the extent of putting earplugs in when I study sometimes, and it seems to help. The noise is not completely blocked, but enough that I'm able to concentrĂ te.

Wearing headphones and listening to hip hop worked well for me! I had trouble focusing in quiet libraries. If I listen to dance music, rock, or pop then I either get distracted dancing or singing along.
