First Writing Since by Suheir Hammad

Post by Scott »

Have you heard this spoken word poem? I like it very much. When Suheir Hammad performed it Def Poetry, some people in the audience literally cried.

You can see a video of it on YouTube. Also, I posted it on: http://spokenwordart.com/videos.php (second one down)

She does a great job of showing the fundamental sameness of humanity - that every place in the world has terrorists and victims. She says that she wouldn't be so hungry that she could wish hunger on someone else, etc.

What do you think?
"That virtue we appreciate is as much ours as another's. We see so much only as we possess." - Henry David Thoreau

"Non ignara mali miseris succurrere disco." Virgil, The Aeneid
