Have you ever thought of writing a poem dedicated to your family in case if you ever die without telling them goodbye?

I have written a poem to my mum and another to my siblings, expressing my love and gratitude for being part of the family. I don't ever want to leave then brokenhearted, that's why I wrote something that will lighten their pain and wipe their tears, for my family is as bound as twins. It will be sad to ever go without leaving them a piece of word whereas I love so much to write.

Oh most definitely. Being depressed got me thinking of all types of poems/statements that I would leave my family. But I'm superstitious and feel if I ever wrote it out, my dead would come sooner.

This is a brilliant idea. And it has never crossed my mind.
In HS, I took a poetry class and enjoyed it very much. My favorite part was dissecting poetry of music. I wrote a few poems which received good reviews.
I will need to process this thought, especially for the very little ones in the family, who would not remember me if I were to leave the world now.

I haven't really thought about it, but that sounds like a good idea. I have never been an affectionate and wordy person since I can only express my thoughts better through words, so this has got me thinking that I should go for it. Just in case, you know.

I want to write a poem that I could dedicate to them because there are a lot of things that I'm not able to tell them in person.

I wrote a poem and dedicated it to my now adult eldest son at the age of about five years old.

When I was younger, I would think about this all the time! One, because I would write poems everyday and all day. Maybe, maybe. I should write write one. It's so much easier to write than speak words most of time.

I do just the opposite, I compose poems that I won't have published until after my family has died.
I love them dearly...but when I write poetry it's not meant for my family to see.

What a specific question! I'd probably want to leave something that sounds like the way I talk so it's clear and authentic, if you know what I mean. I've honestly never thought about this lol

I never have but I am now. It's a beautiful idea. Unfortunately, I'm awful at writing poetry but I will confess that when I was 12 I wrote a letter to my future self. I keep it with me and read it when times get tough.

I've considered writing a song with my last thoughts and words.
I'll probably do that in the future TBH.
I just know that there'll be things easily forgotten once I'm not around to say them anymore

A different side of this question, I have had family members ask me to write a poem for them to be read at their funeral - SOMEDAY. They want to be alive to hear it!
