Official Interview: Gary Hope

1. When did you first start writing?

I wrote a short, non-fiction book called Got Truth? about 15 years ago. Then went about ten years and didn't write anything. Then, the well overflowed. I've written nine novels in the last five years.

2. Who has been the biggest influence on you as an author?

On me as an author? No one. However, there are authors I admire: Hemingway, Steinbeck, Edward Abbey, and Michael Connelly to name a few

3. How did you decide to have your book, Niamh, set in Ireland?

Niamh is the sequel to the book The Girl From Tir-na-nOg. It's a love story set in the small northern Irish town of Dungloe. I visited there once; in fact, I've visited Ireland eight times and have a few friends over there. Once you've spent time in Ireland, it is always in you and you're in it--you can't help it.

4. Are any of the characters based on real life people?

Yes! Niamh herself is loosely based on a friend I know there in Ireland. She was married and her husband worked on a fishing boat in Ireland. One day he was out at sea and a cable snapped and cut him in half (literally cut him in two pieces). So, in the book, Niamh is now single because her husband was killed in this fishing accident.

5. Let's move on to Friends. It's the story of two elderly gentleman who go on a road trip. Have you been to all of the places they visit?

All of them? No. Most of them? Yes.

6. Relationships seem to be a big theme in your books. Are you wanting the readers to learn through them?

No . . . I want the readers to be entertained by them. I want the reader to say, "I can't wait to turn the page." And to say, "I didn't want to finish it." I like hearing that.

7. Do you have more projects in the works?

Oh yes. My fans are bugging me. A sequel to Friends is already written and is at the editors--hopefully, it will be out in October. I have just started a sequel to my last book Ana which has done very well and gotten all 5-star reviews. I have promised my publicist to write a sequel, so that is what I'm working on now.

It's a tie: Diet Mt. Dew and Guinness

9. Do you have a favorite novel?

Favorite book: "Desert Solitaire" favorite novel: Anna Karenina

10. Car or flight?

Both

Sunshine!!!!!!!!

I read and LOVED Niamh! Gary does write books that you don't want to ever end. If they do end, you hope the sequel is already on Amazon!! Thanks for this fascinating review.

This booksounds AMAZING. I feel like I don't read enough books like this because I usually read historical fiction. I absolutely think i will enjoy this book and will hope to make him my new favorite author!
