Public Libraries?

Before posting in this marketing forum, please try to read 10 Step Plan to Promote Your Book: Online Book Marketing on Any Budget. This forum is mainly for followup questions and discussion after reading that book. This forum does indeed allow for much broader discussion of marketing and promotion than just that book, but it's good for everyone to be on the same page about the basics.

Please note, this forum is not for self-promotional plugs. It's for discussing how to promote your book or other writing.

You might have better luck promoting your books at a branch you have ties to; some libraries have a local authors collection and will buy copies of books from authors who live near the library or in the county.

I would try to have as many meet and greets as possible with people that follow you already. Although it's old fashioned in our social media driven world sometimes word of mouth is the key.

Libraries have buyers just like any other business. They decide what to put on the shelves. It's possible to pitch to them just like agents, but success is going to be more difficult for an indie author than a big pub house.

My local library is under threat of closure, but they welcome efforts to promote and fundraise. As another poster suggested, you could run some free (or low cost) writing classes and promote your book to participants.
