Hi Gali - I first submitted a detailed reply to your post before posting a 2nd post thanking Bluemel and Gravy. I see the first post about your suggestions is not here! The touch screen on my tablet is sometimes temperamental vs. the easy click of a mouse on the desktop. Here's what I wrote the first time -

Theses are all great suggestions! Some of them I have been wanting to read. I think I'm going to stick with The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, but I'll have to make sure I read some of the others listed here, too!

I also recommend 'Wolf Hall' by Hilary Mantel. I've only read bits of it (hardly enough to be able to recommend it, I know) but from what I've read of it, combined with the synopsis, it looks pretty damn good

Simon Scarrow's Eagle series (starting with Under the Eagle), featuring Cato and Macro and based around the time of Emperor Claudius, is excellent, as is Conn Iggulden's Emperor series (staring with The Gates of Rome) featuring Julius Caesar and Ben Kane's Hannibal series (starting with Enemy of Rome).

Just finished my Ocotber genre book and I am now ready to pick my November read!

I am so glad cross-over genres are permitted. I see you mentioned Naomi Novik's series in the first post - I love love love those books! Still haven't finished the series tho. I have some on audio books and now I am tempted to start them.

However, I'd be probably wiser to choose something else. I have The head of the Khan from the library, so I better read it in the next few weeks. It is a historical mystery set in Danube Bulgaria at the time of the conversion into Christianity. There is a killer at loose who is marking his victims and is always aiming into man of the nobility - probably hoping to reach in the end the khan itslef. Meanwhile spies are spotted around the city, searching for a myssterious object that may be linked to the murders.

The author was recommended to me, and the blurb sounds good too.

I have some other possible choices of the fantasy subgenre. And also a bunch of historical romance novels, lol! I admit that sometimes it is really relaxing to dive into such light read.

Okay, this is not strictly fiction, although it reads like fiction. Paris Underground about Etta Shiber. This is about two women (one British and one American) smuggling British soldiers out of Paris during the French Resistance. I do not know if every detail is really true, but regardless, it is a read-in-on-sitting book.

That's a good question! When I went back to the November genre of the month voting list, there is no category for classics. I guess if a classic is also historical fiction, then we might be good for November
