The Time Traveler's Wife ~ pages 110 - 219
Does Henry possibly have a drinking problem (although i guess if he's time traveling drinking is the least of his problems) or does he just drink frequently because it helps him relax and may help stop the teleporting through time issue.
Henry's condition seems to me to be very similar to Post Traumatic Stress. Of course losing a mother at such a young age is very traumatic. Just replace the time traveling with anxiety (panic) attacks and you have a man with PTS symptoms. How do you feel about my theory?

Additionally, the roles switch so that Henry doesn't know the future but Clare does.
Didn't Henry tell Clare when she was younger that he wasn't supposed to drink, because of doctor's orders?

I was really shocked by Clare's boldness when Henry first met her. I think if it were me, I would be terrified of making my first impression on young Henry. After two years of waiting I fear I would worry myself into paranoid hysteria... Of course she knows that they end up married, but she doesn't know how that comes to be.

To take us lands away,
Nor any coursers like a page
Of prancing poetry.
This traverse may the poorest take
Without oppress of toll;
How frugal is the chariot
That bears a human soul!
