Child of the Sun Complete Edition by Michael Van Cleve is a graphic novel featuring the early adventures of Samson from the Bible. The story begins with the biblical character Samson. He befriends Hercules and meets Adriana, and falls head over heels in love with her. Samson wants to take Adriana for his wife. But circumstances drive them apart. The stories in this book describe mythical heroes like Hercules, Theseus, Samson, Gilgamesh, and how each of their separate lives intertwines in the outbreak of a worldwide war.

The characters are well-drawn and well-executed. The artwork is magnificent and eye-catching. The story explores several mythical stories of the Bible and also includes some Greek legends. The depiction of Dionysus, the Greek god of wine, is particularly well-executed. The artistic scenes in this book reflect the medieval period beautifully.

The story is very versatile. Each subplot plays its role efficiently in the story. The dialogues in the story felt real and relatable. The author also did not shy away from showing gore scenes at all. There are a notable few examples of violence and bloodshed in this book. In addition to violent scenes, full-frontal nudity is also present, so readers under the legal age must not read this book. Also, adult readers who are uncomfortable with these should not read this book.

However, if you can get past these things, you will surely appreciate the author’s world-building. He has mixed the Greek and Hebrew cultures and explored several myths in such a masterful way that it feels natural for these two to exist side by side. The brilliant cover of this book is sure to attract a lot of readers towards this book. The portrait of Samson as the child of the sun on the cover is breathtaking. Also, the storyline is fast-paced and easy to follow. It keeps you at the edge of your seats. The ending is open and makes perfect sense. In short, the story was well-structured and fabulous.

There are no noticeable typos present in this book. Overall, I give this book 4 out of 4 stars. The reason is that it is one of the best comics I have ever come across. I could not find a single thing to complain about in this book. The art was memorable and the story flawless. I recommend this book to all adult readers who would like to go through a wonderful experience, as I have, with this book.
