Mangas and comics definitely deserve recognition, especially with the variety that they provide to readers. It's an art form.

I think they definitely should be defined as literature. It's real story telling, just with beautiful art on the side. In fact it probably takes a lot more time and effort to come up with a storyline as well as draw characters.

Some people may say it's because the storylines are so basic, but you just can't include as much detail in a comic as in a normal book (and I think that's okay).

Hey if we don’t recognize them now in a time when they are growing in popularity then soon they will be the only really recognized form of books. Non-physical content is really the future. Fan Fiction/spin offs of major novels are more known by the general public due to Fifth Shades of Grey and that origin story coming to light all the way to movie format.
Literature is expanding its definition daily.

Manga should be recognized as a literary piece. Because it's literature and art. Terms like 'genre' were formulated for a reason. And that reason has come to fruition.

To me, mangas and web novels are way better than the traditional books (to me). When you think about it, traditional novels provide you with just writings then you're left to imagine the rest yourself, but Mangas give you both the writings and imagination.

As someone who grew up reading manga like no ones buisness, and still collects to this day, I feel like manga and comics absolutely deserve recognition. There are some manga series that have made me cry like a baby, thrown the book out of anger, and snorted laughing. The plot and character development that you get to watch happen anywhere from a one shots to high double digets volumes is amazing. Absolutely love the genre and the amount of time and patience that goes into these series.

Manga and webnovels can be considered the new niche of literature. However, it is worth noting that manga has been around for a long time, so there is a lot of literary value in them. I know, there is a list of amazing works both with good drawing, and with an excellent plot.

To be really honest, I am a huge admirer of manga. They include a really good storyline. Some of them are very brilliant works, and I feel they deserve literary recognition.
