Gnomes Homes in a Jar Coloring Book Volume 1, by Steven A. Ridder, is an adult coloring book that is full of fascinating illustrations that invite the coloring skills of the beginner and the experienced alike as they let their imaginations choose the colors. The book consists of a total of fifty-one charming pages to color and, on the adjacent pages, fifty-one inspirational sayings to read. When it comes to gnomes, there are no rules governing the color of their homes and surroundings, so the colorists can be as creative or blasé as their varying moods dictate. All it takes is a box of crayons or colored pencils, a comfortable spot, and the right frame of mind. It makes no difference if one is into gnomes or not. There are no gnomes to be found throughout these pages – or at least I did not find any. We see their homes from the outside, so perhaps they are hiding out somewhere or cuddled up on the inside.

I like everything about this coloring book. There is a wide variety of drawings to pick from, with some being more complex than others, but none that cannot be completed in one sitting. I also enjoyed reading the inspirational quotes, most of which can easily be memorized and passed on to others who may need an uplifting word of encouragement. I have found that coloring can be relaxing and enjoyable, and there is nothing about this book that I do not like.

I rate this coloring book five out of five stars. The pictures are intricately drawn, and the inspirational messages are thoughtful and meaningful. The text is also well-written with no grammatical errors noted.

I recommend this coloring book to all adults, from the young to the elderly, regardless of experience or skill level. Although the younger folks may find the pictures intriguing to look at, the coloring of these pictures may be too challenging for some to enjoy.
