The comic collection Mrs. White’s Sub-Snips: Substitute Teaching Cartoons from Real Life by Laura Moss White captures the often-overlooked world of substitute teachers with humor and insight. Through a series of witty and relatable cartoons, White sheds light on the daily challenges faced by substitutes in classrooms and beyond.

I found the book to be a refreshing take on the often underappreciated role of substitute teachers. White's comics vividly portray the struggles and absurdities that substitutes encounter, from managing unruly students to navigating the indifference of permanent staff. What stood out to me were the sharp dialogue and clever use of visual storytelling, which effectively conveyed the frustrations and occasional triumphs of substitute teaching.

One of the highlights of the book is its brilliant editing. The absence is a testament to the author's attention to detail and commitment to quality. This made the book a smooth and enjoyable read from start to finish. The jokes about substitute teachers were worth reveling in. Although I felt sympathetic about their situation, the jokes were written (or drawn) so well that I couldn't help but laugh. I don't feel terrible about this because that was the point of the comic.

However, I would like to acknowledge that substitute teachers are the unsung heroes in an academic setting, and while this book makes fun of them in a subtle manner, it also exposes readers to the things they go through. I hope it will enlighten high school students and teachers, and perhaps they can treat substitute teachers better. In terms of negative aspects, there was nothing about this book that I disliked. I thoroughly enjoyed the humor and empathetic portrayal of substitute teachers.

Overall, this book deserves a rating of 5 out of 5 stars for its unique perspective, humorous approach, and flawless execution in terms of editing. There was no reason to deprive it of a perfect rating because I liked everything about it. I recommend this book to anyone interested in gaining insight into the challenges faced by substitute teachers, as well as to comic enthusiasts looking for a delightful read without any age restrictions.
