Nancy L. Vallette's Figments of Persuasion Field Guide, illustrated by Don Stephenson, takes readers to the land of Imagination, where Figments—mythical creatures born from human emotions and experiences—exist. The book introduces various Figments, some more popular in human lives than others.

Reading this book filled me with nostalgia and childhood wonder, reminding me of the fairy tales we all believed in when we were kids. The book's message is exactly what I need to hear: life will be more beautiful and enriching if we, as adults, continue to believe in magical and mystical things.

The author vividly describes the features of each Figment, who they are, and how they relate to one another. They are present when humans have an emotion or reaction. But some are harder to connect with, like Evocative Figments. Some like to hang out together, like Scruples and Perceptions. These descriptions are delightful. I love the storytelling in this book.

The black-and-white illustrations are pretty classic and adorable. Drawings of Figments standing beside humans with all kinds of expressions really strengthen the story and enhance the reader’s imagination. It is, overall, a very beautiful and creative piece of art.

I understand more about emotions through this book. It made me acknowledge my own emotions and embrace them. I have realized that I am not alone in my feelings, as humans all share common emotions and experiences. Without any hesitation, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I totally love it and have nothing to criticize.

The book inspires us to reconnect with our inner child, bring back that innocence and curiosity we all have as kids, and expand our imagination. Have faith in miracles. I'd like to recommend this to both children and adults. Children will definitely love the fun and mischievous illustrations, and adults will certainly enjoy an opportunity to get lost in the imaginative world this field guide has created.
