Movies that were better than their books

I think the Jurassic Park series is better than the books.

Hunger Games. The books were poorly written and had no feeling. The movies were done great with you really feeling for the characters.

Although the short stories and poems these movies are based on are great already, the movies are so well made and fun, they just add another layer of perfection to the source material.

The Roger Corman/Vincent Price series of movies called the "Poe Cycle" take some of Poe's most well known works and use them as a basis for movies. Although there were several, I want to highlight two of the ones I feel expand the Poe works they are based on very well.

"The Raven" uses the poem as a basis for a comedic story of wizard rivalry and spells gone awry. "The Masque of Red Death" is a gorgeous period piece that expands the depravity of the prince and his court that also utilizes symbolic costuming for the Red Death to eerie effect.

I, Robot is one of my favorite movies. I believe the movie is better, though the book and movie don't have a lot in common.

I also agree with the individual who said they preferred the Hunger Games movies to the books. I appreciated the ending of the movie more than the book, but I prefer all my endings to be happy.

Stardust comes to mind. I really like Gaiman's novels but I thought the movie was more enjoyable.

I like Disney's adaptations of books, ie: Snow White and Cinderella. As far as adult movies, Gone with the Wind comes to mind.

I loved the movie "Last of the Mohicans". It's beautiful and romantic. The book is nothing like that. The main character Natty Bumppo is a clown, nothing like the heroic Nathaniel in the movie.

I honestly think that Memoirs of a Geisha was better as a movie than the book. I saw the movie first actually read the book then had to rewatch the movie.

I sort of agree with the individual who said about the movie Stardust being better than the book, but I do think that in some cases- such as with Stardust- the movie and book should be treated as separate works. I thoroughly enjoyed both the book and the movie, however I do lean mostly towards the movie; so on that I agree. Another case of treating the movie and book separate is definitely Ella Enchanted. In that, the book and movie are similar in name only.

One day and Forrest Gump, without a doubt.
I could not believe how bad the Forrest Gump book was. Hats off to the producer who saw its potential and made it inot the wonderful work of fiction we know today.

I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but I loved the Maze Runner movies way more than I liked the books. Also, the Pretty Little Liars tv show was much better than the books.

I would have to say The Godfather.

Yes, The Godfather was a brilliant movie. Especially it's sequels.

Jaws was a book? I'll have to get reading, but I agree with you that for it's time. The effects were outstanding.

NOOOOOOOO!!! I'm warning you, don't read jaws. I'm not one for the destruction of books, but every copy should be burned it is so bad.

A few good things can be said about the book!

And all those good things are the parts about the shark. Peter Benchley had a LOT going on in the story with the humans, but the interactions with the shark itself were all chilling and gorgeous. I tore through the book just to read those moments.

I have to say, Harry Potter, I didn't care much for the books but I absolutely love the movies.
People gonna hate all over me on this probably.
