Gringo, My Life On The Edge As An International Fugitive by Dan ‘Tito's Davis with Peter Conti
This is a novel based on a true story and looks at the life of Dan ‘Tito’ Davis who is a fugitive from South Dakota. Even though he had a simple childhood, Dan grows up to become a drug trafficker while in high school. He sold white cross which apparently helped students ace their exams. Later on he starts selling marijuana and ends up in prison. What makes Davis a fugitive?
The novel looks at his life as he is on the run and ends up in different south American countries and with different identities. During this time he meets some of the most powerful drug lords in south America, the love of his life and new business partners. After over ten years on the run, he finally settles down and starts up a successful business. What happens next? How does Tito manage to survive in these foreign countries with language barriers, cultural differences and political uncertainty?
In the book Gringo, My Life On The Edge As An International Fugitive Peter Conti has created a grappling tale that is so captivating, one can't help turning the pages. The character description is on point and the reader can clearly picture the described scenes in their mind. Even though Davis is on the run and is facing so many challenges, he has a good sense of humour in the story, for example, in instances where he says what he wishes he could tell the reader.
The reader experiences the author's every emotion, particularly his frustrations and anxieties. You could never need white cross to read this book, because the story is incredibly fascinating from the start to the end. Gringo is really a page turner.
There are however some editing errors in the book, even though they did not make reading the book difficult . There are spaces that break sentences, making the continuation look like a new paragraph. There are also words that have been repeated within sentences. For example, a pack of a pack of. There are a lot of Spanish words in the story even though the translations come at the end of the book. This being a nonfiction novel, I feel the ending could have been different.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars and recommend it to funs of detective and adventure genres.
