If you like love stories and an interesting take on something that realy happened, Titanic all the way.
If you like seeing really cool, interesting graphics and prefer action over love stories as well as sci-fi stuff over historic stuff, Avatar is your pick.

I agree with Avatar being more superior in the 3D department simply because it was made for 3D viewing which is why these re-releases of movies into 3D just don't work - Lion King and Titanic.
