@Fran

No Fran they are not confining, unless of course I am reading them in a cave. :D

Caves have bats in them. I'm staying out of caves, too.
How perfectly goddamned delightful it all is, to be sure.

@Tralala

I don't like bats either, especially because they are carriers of the lyssavirus. Growing up we had a crazy aunty who loved bats and kept a heap as pets. We called her the crazy bat lady. :D The sad part of the story is that her best friend was bitten by one of the bats which just happened to have the lyssavirus, sadly she died from the virus. It was a front page story in the papers of our little town.

Lyssavirus? What the hell is that? It sounds awful! THANK GOD (or whomever...Mother Nature) it's winter here, or I'd never go outside with all this bat talk.

Bats are a protected species here in Ireland ... I don't believe I have ever actually seen a live one (or a dead one either for that matter).
But in reality they are probably a whole lot more afraid of us than we are of them. 8)

In my home town there were big bats, about the size of pigeons. They called them nighthawks. My grandmother always said they would get tangled up in your hair. Theres a lot of small fruit bats here in Mexico. My brother-in-law's house is full of them they live in the cinder blocks and in the ceiling. He has 20 ft. ceilings in his house, when he first moved into it the floor was covered with bat doo-doo about a half inch thick. It took three of us about a week to scrape it up. He put poison out and after a couple days the floor was covered with dead bats. Probably my biggest phobia is not really weird but I have a fear of house fires. Especially electrical fires.

Pretty weird phobia Bighuey. No need to fear, Carbon Monoxide and Fire Detector is here! You should replace those every 5 years, and change the batteries every month. Surely that will relieve some of your phobia :D P.S If you don't have any, you should buy some.

Ive got a couple smoke detectors that work and I dont have a furnace or stove or anything like that so carbon monoxide isnt a problem.

Where I lived once the house nextdoor had a fire .... one very, very scary experience. Thankfully no one was hurt but the premises was totally wiped out.

I think everyone has a phobia about fire, and if they don't then they should, fire is not nice.

I once saw a mobile home burn completely down in about 15 minutes. Luckily no one lived in it.

Nope. I have never given a bat the Screaming Meemies. Or the Heebie Jeebies, or the Creepy Icky Yuck Tremors. They just fly away wondering who that crazy woman is.

I have a phobia of public cloth and hotel rooms.

I can not stand to sit on couches, beds, or carpets that are public or owned by people who I don't know very well. I can not sleep in Hotel/motel beds. Period. When I'm on trips I have to sleep fully clothed, socks and all, with my own pillow and blanket. The hotel bed sheets and blankets can NOT be touching me. On the rare occasion when I have forgotten my pillow and blanket I tuck my knees all the way up to my chest and barely cover my legs with the top sheet to keep from freezing.

One year my family went on vacation and we stayed in a 5 star hotel. I slept in an armchair covered in the beach towels that the family brought. Mostly that was due to the fact that the first room we were given had vomit all over one side of one of the beds. UGH!

Holes in fabrics freak me out. I can't shop in thrift stores usually... used fabric gives me the heeby jeebies, and if there's a HOLE anywhere in the fabric, it makes me want to cry.

The very idea of there being a hole in my bedsheets makes me queasy. If I imagine my bare toe slipping through the hole in the sheets I can't stand it!

I also hate cabs for this same fabric reason.

I can't look at my wrists without flinching, twitching and holding then very tightly. I usually have to keep them covered up, but if it's too long for long sleeves or my usual fingerless gloves, then I have to have them touching something, not all exposed. I get really freaked out for some reason...
I also have a phobia of the sun. It's not a really serious condition where I can't go outside or anything, it's just that sometimes I have panic attacks when the sun's really bright. Normally I can ignore the fear and just try and keep to the shade, but sometimes it gets out of hand...
And of course, my strange fear of mirrors. Of course I hate my own reflection (hahaha I know I'm ugly, no matter how many people tell me I'm not) but I always imagine someone else behind me. When I look into the reflection, I manage to make simple shapes and shadows look like figures and monsters, and I get a bit freaked out.
