"Tears and Trombones" by Nanci Lee Woody got me at "music". Turning to music is just my kind of thing. Though I despise that he was abused by his father. Still, I have to read this book in detail.

Based on the review, this sounds like an extraordinary book. My siblings and I all learned music and/or dance, though my patents never did. So, I can partially understand the character's position at home. The trombone is such a unique instrument.

A fictional story based on a true story about Joey's challenges of becoming a great trombonist, mixed in with an abusive father & trapped mother and having a romance between two women should make for an interesting story. It is good to hear that the author wrote well and that the story kept you reading to find out what would happen next.
