I was a single child with both parents working, so I started reading very early. I love reading because it keeps me grounded.

Yes, like everyone says, books are my escape, but when I come back from a good book I have gained some insight into the world. Whether I am happy or sad, books act like buffers and give me a more wholesome perspective on my life.

Then there is the obvious pleasure that a really delightful book brings. Because no matter how enlightening a book is, I wouldn't read it unless I enjoy it.

I have always loved reading, because doing so provided a great sense of escape, adventure, and education, to me.

From sleeping with books i could not yet read, to straining my eyes with the last rays of light to get just one more chapter finished.
Spending all my summers savings to add another book to my collection, reading Laura Ingalls wilder over and over untill i had it memorized.

Books are an amazing part of my life.

It's the most pleasant, most convenient way to be told a story. Movies cast whichever actors they deem fit, put the accent on the scenes the director likes and drops the ones they don't like as much, and have their own rhythm. Theater is the same, for obvious reasons. Games are nice, but the accent is still on the "game" part more than on the "story" part, and require you to act, which may be what you're looking for sometimes, but not every time.

Meanwhile, a book tells you a story in which you're the movie director. You choose how the characters look like. You choose on which chapters, on which sentences you want to put an accent. You can read over and over again the same part if you feel like it, or spend ten times more time than usual on a paragraph, if it inspires you and if you want to think about it through and through. You can put music in the background, or not, as you wish. You can read it at any time and place, you can read it in any position you like, you can read it by yourself no matter if you're alone or in a crowd. It's, if you ask me, the most versatile way to tell a story! And who doesn't like a good story? Plus, since books are much easier to have published than movies, games or other ways to tell stories, there are more people who write books than people who film movies, and that means that more people have told that one story they wanted to tell the world through this media compared to any other media.

Reading allows me to escape the real world. When I read a book I dive into it, I imagine the characters and the stories become apart of my life for the time I'm reading that particular book. I really enjoy reading

Many reasons as above...
To escape, to dream, to live the characters, to experience them, to learn, to get the knowledge, and finally to apply them in real life. But beyond these, it's just love for reading.
It feels kind of deja vu to experience certain situations, certain conversations in day-to-day life only to remember that those are straight out of some book.

The reason I love reading is that it is an escape. With each book I read, I go on a different adventure. I love being so drawn into a book for a while that It's like I don't know what is going on around me. This helps with my mental health issues. If I am anxious I pick up a book and read, it helps tp relax me.

For me, reading books is a way of expanding my knowledge on a topic or subject. I see it as a window into someone else’s mind and have yet to read a book where I didn’t learn something new or expanded my knowledge of something I already knew.
One of the greatest gifts you can give a child is a passion for reading.

I guess I am fortunate to have grown up in the 1950's and '60's before there were too many information options available. I remember long lazy summer days curled up under a tree with reading material; any reading material. In those times we had comic books that actually offered kid appropriate material. I would patiently wait for the summer bookmobile to make its stop in my neighborhood. I would then run home with my allotted number of books. They were well read before the next visit and I could exchange them for new adventures.
I engaged in reading at a young age because it did transport me on adventures that would not be possible in my day and age. Authors were my companions when I wasn't out playing with friends. I enjoy the escape that stories and human conditions can give. Feeling a sense of empathy with a fictional character is a testimonial to good storytelling. My imagination connected with an author's vision is greater than any computer generated presentation.

I believe I am one of those people who live to read. I read everything....the newspaper, the cereal box, adult books, children's books, school newsletters...everything! I think that if someone took the time to record their thoughts in an organized manner, i.e. a book of any length, then we should take the time to read said book. I have learned more about so many interesting subjects by reading a novel than studying the same subject in a textbook. Textbooks are great for some material but historical fiction leaves you feeling as though you truly lived during that time period.

When in doubt, read!

I like reading, because it allows me to see through other peoples' eyes and experience their journey. Sometimes I read a story and I think I know how it will end, but I more often than not, turn out to be wrong. I seem to have a preference for supernatural genres, but there are some really good murder mysteries and real life adventures around as well. I especially enjoy it when a series is involved, knowing that the story doesn't end with just one book. For as long as I can recall, reading has been a part of my life.

I just think it’s the most fun one can have by themselves ;-) I won’t lie, I’m a big Netflix fan but books are the only things I can sit down and accidentally lose 8 hours to!

I like reading for a number of reasons. First of all, it gets my mind off of things when I need it to. Secondly, it takes me to places I’ve always wanted to go, or could never go in physical reality. It also helps me improve my own writing and grammar skills, as well as giving me time for myself.
