Re: Why do you like reading?
Yes, like everyone says, books are my escape, but when I come back from a good book I have gained some insight into the world. Whether I am happy or sad, books act like buffers and give me a more wholesome perspective on my life.
Then there is the obvious pleasure that a really delightful book brings. Because no matter how enlightening a book is, I wouldn't read it unless I enjoy it.

From sleeping with books i could not yet read, to straining my eyes with the last rays of light to get just one more chapter finished.
Spending all my summers savings to add another book to my collection, reading Laura Ingalls wilder over and over untill i had it memorized.
Books are an amazing part of my life.

Meanwhile, a book tells you a story in which you're the movie director. You choose how the characters look like. You choose on which chapters, on which sentences you want to put an accent. You can read over and over again the same part if you feel like it, or spend ten times more time than usual on a paragraph, if it inspires you and if you want to think about it through and through. You can put music in the background, or not, as you wish. You can read it at any time and place, you can read it in any position you like, you can read it by yourself no matter if you're alone or in a crowd. It's, if you ask me, the most versatile way to tell a story! And who doesn't like a good story? Plus, since books are much easier to have published than movies, games or other ways to tell stories, there are more people who write books than people who film movies, and that means that more people have told that one story they wanted to tell the world through this media compared to any other media.

To escape, to dream, to live the characters, to experience them, to learn, to get the knowledge, and finally to apply them in real life. But beyond these, it's just love for reading.
It feels kind of deja vu to experience certain situations, certain conversations in day-to-day life only to remember that those are straight out of some book.

I engaged in reading at a young age because it did transport me on adventures that would not be possible in my day and age. Authors were my companions when I wasn't out playing with friends. I enjoy the escape that stories and human conditions can give. Feeling a sense of empathy with a fictional character is a testimonial to good storytelling. My imagination connected with an author's vision is greater than any computer generated presentation.
