Exactly! Terry and the Den are just some terrible little secret they share now... but neither acknowledges it happened, even to each other!

I completely agree with the lack of consciousness regarding the situation. I see that Carly is trying to be supportive but the whole issue holds almost no emotional attachment. I don't feel either of them feeling affected by the situation or that they feel they should come to terms with what happened or the consequences that need to be dealt with.B Creech wrote: ↑01 Feb 2020, 17:28 Although I liked Adam and Carly and were glad they became a couple, the situation with Terry did make me wonder about them. Neither of them mentioned it to each other, and neither of them seemed to have a conscience about it. If I were Carly, I would want to know exactly how my boyfriend had been involved instead of just ignoring it. I agree about the parents never getting closure. It was like Terry didn't matter so why mention her anymore!

Exactly! I'm hoping they will bring it back in the next book in the series and do something! Adam needs to let her parents know what happened. Her death was an accident but hiding her body was a crime! Since he is a main character I doubt the author will write it where he gets in trouble! That's a tricky one!kaylahk17 wrote: ↑12 Feb 2020, 13:58I completely agree with the lack of consciousness regarding the situation. I don't think someone should be "supportive" about having a den used for kidnapping someone or have a shrine to their mom... The second Carly figures it out and realizes that it was 100% Adam that kidnapped her she almost admonishes herself for judging Adam and believes he DESERVES a "fresh start". I mean, I love my husband but if I found out he had a murder to cover up within a month of dating him I would not be so understanding.kaylahk17 wrote: ↑12 Feb 2020, 13:58I completely agree with the lack of consciousness regarding the situation. The worst part I think is that the author kept bringing Terry up, as if something was going to be done about it. Instead, Carly burns down the den or the papers with Terry’s information are just in a desk. That’s it. Nothing else.Nym182 wrote: ↑12 Feb 2020, 14:39 I don't think I have been this upset over the death of a fictional character in a long time... I’m hoping that the next books bring closure, but I’m not betting on that to happen.

It’s funny because for such a minor character she had a huge impact on me too. I still can’t figure out why the Terry incident is in the book. I can’t see a link between Adam’s emerging powers and a need to do something like this. And neither Adam or Carly learned anything from it. I can only think in later books Adam is going to be turning to the dark side in a major way but then you’d think we’d get a heads-up from his POV.Nym182 wrote: ↑12 Feb 2020, 14:39 I don't think I have been this upset over the death of a fictional character in a long time... It does frame the death as Terry’s fault, even though it really wasn’t.nfdoughe wrote: ↑13 Feb 2020, 16:35 I found this part of the book to be extremely negative and puzzling. I realize Adam is gripped by this terrible force or whatever, but wouldn't it show itself again? Wouldn't, in all of 16 years, there be other incidents? And it's never truly explained. Why is he so strange just because he isn't around other Descendants? It took a lot for the book to get better after Terry, and mostly it only did that with space. Thinking about it again, it's pretty unforgivable. The writing makes it seem like it's actually Terry's fault for her death which is ridiculous. Carly doesn't question it, and Adam explains it away because really he was going to let her go. If either of them are supposed to be heroes, this completely eliminates that notion.
And for an event that Adam admits had such a profound effect on his life it is odd that it’s swept under the rug like it is.

Well I would say that she had some influence... I think that she is used to symbolize the evil path Adam is going down pre-Carly... However, that's pretty much where it ends as once Carly burns down his den, which I think is supposed to symbolize her burning the evil out of Adam. (for the record, this symbolism does not gel with me and it fell super flat in my opinion)OfficialEmma wrote: ↑14 Feb 2020, 00:07 Honestly, I'd say that Terry's character was not well-developed. She had almost no influence on the tale.
