The Stranger from the Sea, by Victor Lana, is about the lives of Joanna, who is a kindergarten teacher living in a beach house in Montauk, and Anderson, who was a pilot on his now destroyed planet Psodenia. Joanna randomly finds Anderson on the beach where he has washed up while walking her dog. She takes him to her house to help him get cleaned up. Anderson tells her that he is far from his home in Austalia. Since Anderson has nowhere else to go, he ends up staying with her. Their relationship turns to love, but Joanna can sense that there is something off about Anderson.

The aspect of the book that I liked the most was how eventually Joanna got the life she had always wanted. Both Anderson and Joanna experience pain and loss throughout their lives so they deserved some happiness and joy. The relationships in the story, aside from the science fiction parts, were relatable. Joanna had a strained, back and forth relationship with her sister, Barb, which is common in real life. Both Joanna and Anderson have flings when they are separated which is also quite realistic. I also like all the unpronounceable names and foods that existed in Anderson's world. It added to the science fiction aspect of the book nicely.

There wasn't any aspect of the book I disliked, but if I had to choose, the aspect I liked the least is the character Zrgbme. He is so full of hate and is too stubborn to listen to any sort of reason. He is never repentant for any of his wrongdoings. He is set on violence and has no tolerance for peace. The character was developed well and contributed to the story, I just didn't care for his adamant, unyielding personality.

The audience for this book is adults interested in science fiction and romance. It is a good read, written well and easy to follow. This book would also be appropriate for interested teenagers. There are some instances of violence, sexual situations, and a few profanities throughout the book, but nothing that is too mature. It is all written in a very tasteful way.

I rate this book a 3 out of 4 stars. The book was well edited except for some typos, unfortunately. The story and the characters were well developed and it was an enjoyable, easy read. Everything was great about this book and as long as someone is interested in science fiction and romance, I would recommend it.

I'm wondering if what Joanna sensed about Anderson caused a feud between them or even built up their relationship. Well all of that are left for me to find out anyway. The Zrgbme guy sounds off and creepy too; even his name is something else.
