Given the choice between reading and watching TV (or even a movie based on a book), I would choose reading hands down. When I read, it's easy to imagine the scene. I'd much rather imagine it for myself rather than have somebody else portray a scene for me.

Reading also opens me to different perspectives about things. I believe we all have a story to tell, and reading helps me to find other people with whom I can identify. Or it can help me to see a more compassionate way of looking at others.

Reading brings me back to my childhood. As a little girl I would devour many books, one after another. Then middle school came, and I began to read less and less. In high school, school simply sucked the fun out of reading. My senior year in high school taught me to love books again. My english teacher was the best I've ever had, and although it was an AP class, she reminded me how much I missed reading! Now I read all the time, it is a good coping mechanism for mental health.

Leaving the actual reason for reading aside and forgetting the genre or plot of the story itself. The most fun part is having your own versions of characters in your head.

At the start they are blurry, shrouded in a veil of mystery. As the story progresses and descriptions keep coming in, the veil slowly lifts. The better the author, the clearer the character in our head. The more we read and get to know about the characters, the better we picture them in our imagination.

By the end of the story, we can visualize a world in our own head. It's better than movies, because everybody gets their own unique version. No offence to the actors but same people playing different roles, more then often spoils the fun.

I love reading because it is my “happy place”. As a full-time working mother, I have a ton of responsibilities both at work and at home. Reading helps me to escape that stress once sentence at a time. Also, if I can relate to the book, its even better. It’s almost therapeutic in the way that you feel like there are others that feel the same way you do, even if the book is fiction.

I like reading because it transports me to another world. When I read, the world around me disappears and I feel anxiety, elation, thrill, sorrow, and so much more from the comfortable seat on my living room couch.

I love reading, though, because the best books have made me think and look at life in a different way.

I love reading because it allows me to escape into different, exciting worlds. I like to read mostly works of fiction and what excites me the most about picking up a new book, is thinking about all the adventures the characters will embark on that I will be able to witness.

Well, reading is a hobby for me. Beside, even more importantly, reading is a primary way of education. It is so essential that I can't do without.

When I read a book of some author, I see myself reading that person's mind, I am able to understand the way that author think, loves, hates etc. just by reading his own book. And I read to acquire knowledge as well. And this are the reasons why I like to read
