Being honest I saw nothing wrong in the sex portrayed in the novel. I'm not a fan of characters who are all perfect and courageous and morally upright and brave and sanctiomonius and wise..Have a visible character flaw!.. And if Grant's is a sexual weakness for his partner then so be it

I do agree with you. Sex in the book was unnecessary ,although it served other purpose such as attracting readers who love novels which have sexual content. So in my opinion it still made sense in this context.

There you have it, Tasiwin, I think, understanding the author's intentions and contextualizing why such a scene was included In the tale is a matter of reader's preference, isn't it?

Well, I personally didn't think the sex was completely necessary. It could have still been nice if it was left out...
I think the author uses it to make his readers more engaged in the book.

Science is not everybody's cup of coffee.A little bit of sex spices up the story. It was necessary in my view.

I think that a story doesn't always have to be about one thing. The author may have included it just to emphasise our human nature.

In this particular case, it tied in with the plant hormone stuff, so it made sense, not to mention the fact that it's human nature to get distracted by nature's calls. That's not unrealistic. As to whether it's necessary in fiction in general... probably not, but plenty of people like it.

Some people might not find this novel complete if emotions like is not express. I believe it might be one of the reasons why the author has to add sex to it.

I completely agree! Books are so much better without it. If I wanted to be entertained with graphic sex, violence and profanity, I would watch TV.

I haven't actually been able to complete this book yet but I'd say sex scenes in a book are fine as long as it isn't too excessive.

I understand wanting to give proof for the claim of a hormone increase due to the flora of Zona. However, I found it to be completely unnecessary in the sheer amount of times it is mentioned. It seemed like severe excess and takes away from the main plot in my opinion.

I think a few sexual scenes were necessary, however the author might have overdone it by including multiple scenes.

I concur. The book tends to reveal the true nature of human beings. sex is an essential aspect in this regard, however, the book would have done better with fewer sex scenes.

I’m glad I’m not alone in the feeling that the sex scenes caused the book to drag. I didn’t think some of the sex was uncalled for, but when we got to part three the book really dragged for me. I did not care that everyone was sleeping together, I just wanted to see how things would tie up and what kind of things the author envisioned there. I know the hormone producing plants were another sci-if element to add, but it just felt like an excuse for male sex fantasies. It really decreased my fondness of the book greatly the author honestly.
