Charles Atkins grew up in the 1950s in Maine village. In 2018, he comes back as a grandfather and narrates to his grandkids a sad memory from his prime years. They set off to Berry Island where he tells the story of Henry Brand who is accused of murdering Reggie Wyman, a lobsterman. Charles goes down the memory lane of his childhood, adulthood, and Susan’s story (his wife). He had just cleared law school and still green when this occurs. With the passion to help out his friend who had saved his life before, he sets out to find justice despite his fear of losing the case.

All he wants for Henry to get his freedom, so he tries to find a seasoned lawyer to help him out. However, Henry wants him to handle his case as he trusts him. This is quite a fete considering the prosecutor is experienced, yet he has never handled a case before. Considering Henry had been a victim of racism before he fears the White populace of Maine may work against him. So Charles seeks out his professor from school to help him out. Also in his bandwagon is his roommate Peter volunteering to help out. But, so much is on their mind, but the biggest question is how they will set Henry Brand free?

Tidal Pools by Robert Marier is a thriller full of surprises. The story takes us through different timelines. I admire how the author is an excellent storyteller and captivates the reader. The descriptions are epic and you can envision those tides, even feel the waves through the words. This is a legal thriller, and it is evident the research done is great. From the terms used, the concepts, to the narrations of the court procedures it’s just on point.

This book is a page-turner: once I started reading I couldn’t put the book down to the very end. There are no filler chapters that would make the story seem superficial. It feels so real. The book has been exceptionally edited and because of that, I enjoyed reading it. I had a revised version, so I think that’s why I didn’t find errors. There’s nothing, in particular, I didn’t like with the book. The font is a comfortable one, and the short chapters made you yearn for more. Another plus is the use of images that was a winner.

I rate Tidal Pools 4 out of 4 stars; the author did justice to the book. It is a neutral read with no violence, intimacy, or curses. I recommend the book to all lovers of the Crime/Thriller/Mystery genre.

Not just you, but I love erotic scenes they are hard to nail and if properly executed it takes a book to another level.
