I can't really blame her friends for being jealous. It's a part of human nature and moreover, they expected her to do terribly (considering her size, fighting skills or former faction). She was right in forgiving them.

I don't think it's selfish to aspire to be the best you can be. Your friends ought to understand that and support you in fact.Scott wrote: ↑03 Jun 2014, 19:03 The following discussion question was included in some copies of the June book of the month, Divergent by Veronica Roth.
During initiation, is it selfish of Tris to crave victory, or is it brave? Do Tris’s friends have a right to be jealous when she’s ranked above them? If you were Tris, would you forgive them for their reactions?

It's great to read the books as well as watch the movies and see how different everyone views bravery. From the start Tris was different than the other abnegation children because she always cared for others (like a leader does) not just thought of others first (giving away in a selfless manner.)fire_spice wrote: ↑16 Aug 2022, 20:42I don't think it's selfish to aspire to be the best you can be. So for Tris to succeed at protecting others, she had to be brave. Which means she had to be selflessly throwing herself into the greatest dangers possible. She has to go where most can't succeed that she can do what others can't which most dauntless are this way. Some what competitive even cutthroat-yes, Leaders have to be courageous, skillful and selfishly willing to rise to their full potential.
Every step of the way-Tris selflessly braved the hardest path to lead others to a better place.
