Fantasy, action, suspense, and a little bit of romance? Interesting ingredients that promises a very good story.

I've read all the books, and loved the twists and the dynamic between the main characters and the supporting characters. Her other series, A Court of Thorns and Roses is also pretty good. Recently, she released House of Earth and Blood in the Crescent City series and I already like it.

Going to state an unpopular opinion - didn't like it. I have finished the series filling cheated and more than a little bit tilted. Maybe it was my high expectations, but given that so many people recommend this series and sing praises about it, am I wrong to have high expectations?

Anyhow, let's talk about the characters first. Starting off with the main character - Celaena. With the first few books, Maas goes quite well - we feel the youngish sixteen-year-old character. My main problem is that as the series progresses, and overall, Celaena is so unlikable. She's rude, she's arrogant and bossy. We see nearly no character development from her. Really don't know what there is to like about her. Eventually I started to look forward to other character PoVs. Don't even get me started on their first meeting with Darrow. Despite Maas' attempts to paint him as a power-hungry noble, his reaction is quite the legitimate and normal one. Who would roll over and accept an inexperienced teenager as your monarch in such a dangerous time?
I actually ended up liking the side characters the best - Chaol, Lysandra, Yrene.

Alright, pacing. The series, and each book individually, felt like a marathon to get through. A lot of the time, what was happening wasn't really substantial. It felt like the author kept cutting between PoVs, as if to hide that even. What was happening between scenes didn't feel engaging or interesting.

I'll skim over it, but mention the fact that Maas makes loads of mistakes medieval-realism wise, even taking magic into account. A few examples of these are for example the sizes of the armies at the end (even with magic, the amount of supplies they would need dwarfs the available supply of food available), the fact that Celaena can shoot someone who's been riding away for 20 minutes and a slew of other things. The worst crime is Aedion's leadership of the army.

I feel like a lot of things were pulled out of nowhere in the last few books. Personally I feel like Maas somewhat wrote herself into a corner, so she had to spend a whole book (Tower of Dawn) getting another army and also making up a whole bunch of myths that reappeared to save the day. Lots of fairly common cliches at the end as well. Maas can write court intrigue and drama decently, but definitely not battles.

I definitely won't be rereading the series and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. There are plenty of authors in the genre that are far better at anything Maas wrote.

I loved reading the first book, and fallen in love with series. I finished the fourth book two weeks ago and I cant wait to get the next one. Its amazing how the characters, their thoughts, personalities and feeling change and develop in every book. During the Queen of Shadows sometimes I felt like there is too much happening and that it needed some calmer scenes. But then I continued reading and it just didnt really matter anymore. I absolutely recommend it to those who love fantasy, magic, adventure, a bit of chaos, a bit of romance, and long plot with interesting connections between characters.

This is my favorite action fantasy novel of all time! I have collected all 8 hard copies and it's the highlight of my bookshelf at home. I read the whole series, and hoping for more. I looooove the characters and the story. I'll give it a year after reading the last book, and I am planning to read it all over again. Kudos to the author for such a great story. And thanks to my husband for introducing me to these kinds of books. I love you!

I absolutely loved the series. It's one of my favourites reads of all time and I would strongly recommend it. Sarah J Mass is an amazing author and the other books written by her are just as good. Eagerly awaiting for a new installment to the series.

Easily my favorite series of all time. Celaena is a fierce character who is witty and sharp. Maas' other series, A Court of Thorns and Roses, is equally as good. After reading this entire series, it's obvious that Maas' character development is insanely good. 10/10 would recommend this book to others.

I've still been meaning to invest in this series after reading a sample of the first book. I'm interested in her other series, A Court of Thorns & Roses too.
While browsing Kindle, I came across a Catwoman book written by Sarah J Maas, which surprised me.

I first read this book years ago. About a month ago, after rereading Maas' ACOTAR series, I thought I'd reread Throne of Glass.

I got as far as page 10. Now, keep in mind, I've reread Tower of Dawn, Kingdom of Ash, and a few other books later in this series and loved them. I just couldn't enjoy the first one.

For one, there was a ridiculous amount of exclamation points in the first chapter. Does that even make sense? Why do you need three exclamation points per page? It grated on my nerves so much that I just stopped reading. I know it sounds like a small thing, but it was so annoying.

I read this book before, and loved it. My tastes have changed, but I would still recommend it to anyone who likes this genre

I didn't read the full series because I didn't quite enjoy it. Some of the themes made me uncomfortable. Especially where the MC ends up with people who have tortured her.

I wasn't able to complete full series because I didn't enjoy it that much. Some of the themes made me uncomfortable. Especially where the main character ends up with people who have physically tortured her.

I wanted to love this series but ultimately it felt disjointed in a lot of parts for me. I think because she was so inspired by Lord of the rings as a teenager to write this book, there was a lot of potential but also a lot that she was trying to make her own. I did read the entire series, I feel like the first three books are almost a completely different series than the last five. Ultimately it is very good and worth reading, but I do prefer her other two series to this one.
