The author seems to be able to write realistically and that is a great way to allow a reader to be connected to the characters in the story. Great job with the details in your review.

Much of what this story represents feels like a popular plot to me. Therefore, I'm curious to know the twist in Joey's survival. Which woman did he choose eventually, and why?

Wow the emotions even in the first few pages! I really love this authors writing style and it sounds like this will be an endearing story of chasing one’s dream.

Great job on your review, I’ve added this to my want to read shelf!

:tiphat: It was something that Joey stuck with, he may have not like his trombone but he got used to it. What an emotional experience seeing his parents go through that. John was tough.

Your review is simply beautiful. It makes me want to pick up this book and read!

Coming of age books are quite engaging to read and Joey's story set in the 40s, appears to be no different.

I am a musician, so I definitely think I would enjoy this story. I'd love to follow this plot and root for Joey from the sidelines and watch him grow and attempt to achieve his goals. Thanks for the great review! I'm looking forward to reading this one.

I have a strong appreciation for musicians and songwriters everywhere. I am taking music appreciation in college, and I LOVE IT! There are so many genres and musical styles to appreciate. I would love to see the story that Nanci Lee Woody creates with this novel. Thank you for this great review.

This sounds like a really compelling read. I also appreciate what you shared about the author leaving out the extraneous info. That really tightens a story up and keeps it flowing well. Thanks for an interesting analysis. I enjoyed your review.

I think that music has saved everyone at some point in their life. Reading about one’s journey through trying times is something that will resonate with all readers alike. This sounds like a very good read and the review gives you just enough to make me want to read it ASAP! Great job!

I have seen this in many families. Once you choose to have children, there are so many factors to consider. Apart from financial investment there is also emotional investment. Most parents think the latter is in abundance. And most realize too late that they are mistaken.

His father's emotional abuse and his mother looking the other way is so sad, but life always gets in the way. I see many people in his situation every day.

From a sampling, this seems like an interesting coming-of-age story about a young man who grows up in hard environment and attempts to become a musician. It might be worth a second look. Well done.

Admirable review. This book is a reminder that we should persist, like Joey, to reach our goals. It is worth reading.
