Good And Bad Topics

Post by Ant »

Scrolling through, i've noticed a number of interesting topics throughout the forum, some not used anymore, but, it has to be said, there are some daft questions asked. So, what are your favourite topics, and what are some of your less popular topics ? ( This will be in the less popular section  )

"What made you happy" and "Rant Thread" are pretty great and do what they say on the tin- a place to either share your happy thoughts and memories or a place to vent your boiling anger and annoyances. The movie thread is very good as you get to be a film reviewer for a few paragraphs and share your opinion on movies, be they horror or drama etc. I must say there are a few stupid topics here though: I know I do contribute, but Count to a Million is just pointless and once I post in it it exits my thoughts fairly fast, its gonna be years before we make it. Maybe Count to 10000 may be wiser..?

Also, stupid pointless questions like your favorite color or how much do you weigh add nothing to the Community forum, as well as threads like 3 word stories etc, just a cliche google search of popular threads- it will get replies but adds no depth to the place. I like the Online Pubs though, I get away with a lot more there than real pubs

Introductions is a bit of a joke at this stage, I mean from the hundreds and hundreds of people who post an intro, about 1% of them stick around, making your welcome to them very hollow indeed..

Something I never really thought about but you are right. I try to reply to as many introductions as I can but of the dozens of "welcomes" posted, very few are ever heard of again.
Half agree with Count To A Million, pointless, tedious but just so addictive.
What are you eating/drinking? seems a mad question to ask but I can't help looking what other people like, and get ideas on what I might give a go.
I really like BH's posts on the last movies he's watched, they are a great read in themselves.

Thanks, Ant. Theres no TV where I live so I buy a lot of movies. Used DVD's are cheap here, and old VHS tapes are about a nickel a ton, so thats all I watch.

I agree about the count to a million thread, theres not much point to it. My favorites are last book read and word association, movie game and movie title game. I started that one, but there hasnt been much response to it. I suppose it is kind of idiotic. Some of the threads you say whats on your mind and thats the end of it, theres nothing more to say. When I first saw the how much do you weigh thread, I was thinking none of the ladies will respond to that one except to say in a nice way to go to hell, none of your damn business. There have been some interesting posts on the last thing you ate thread, I especially like Carla's posts, they make me hungry enough to eat the dining room table. But all in all, most of the threads are entertaining.

I must say that regardless of the topic, BH's posts always bring a smile to my face, please never stop posting BH. :D I like the "What are you reading at the moment" thread. It's always interesting to see what people are reading, and sometimes it leads me to a book that I would probably never have read. The online pub is always interesting as well, also the rant and happy threads.

Call me conservative but I enjoy the 'good' topics which revolve around books, "What Are You Reading Right Now?" "What Is The Last Book You Read And Your Rating?" and "First Sentence Of Current Book". I like a thread which offers ongoing interest like "Word Association". My choice of 'bad' topics are similar to the ones mentioned above and although I did participate in "Five People You Would..." it's never gonna happen.

My favourites are Reading Right Now, Last Book Read, First Sentence, Word Assoc & Last Movie (for Bighuey's eclectic & from the hip viewing reviews), Reviews of Specific Books, Online Pub & The Smugglers & Movie Game!. I browse the rest with my moderator hat on :x ... I wouldn't say there are any "Bad" topics but there are certainly some pretty silly ones like asking people their marital status (we're not a dating site!).
At this stage I kinda have a list of members whose posts I really look forward to and read with interest and pleasure (you know who you are so I won't embarrass you :) ) and who are always generating additions for my TBR and my MBRRN lists and long may that continue

In my opinion a good topic is connected with drama, excesses and luxury, like the book War and Peace written by Lev Tolstoy. People love it when luxury objects a Rolex or a Longines are mentioned and when the book is about the problems and distress of the upper class....
