Breakers written by Barry Litherland is a psychological thriller which revolves around a fictional coastal village named portskil in the north western highlands of Scotland. This book is written in the first person of the characters involved.

Billy McArdle and a friend of his had to ship off drugs and illegal immigrants but failed to do so with the whether not in their favor.

Murdo Carr, a savage thug, after all hasn't died in Mexico as stated several years earlier. He is pure evil. Death is just a lucrative business to him; it's a labour of love. Jack Munro a tenacious detective inspector let him slip away the last time he had a case involving Murdo. But Jack isn't a person who makes the same mistake twice.

Karif, a boy amongst the the immigrants escapes the storm and finds refuge in a caravan owned by a newcomer name Clive.
Karif is given a Forster family and he keeps thinking about the bad mam who killed his parents and wonder what if the murder comes after him now. Following the storm there are murders reported and with the help of Karif they find the mam behind all this. For all Billy knows he is next on the line with Murdo breathing down his neck.

Clive was looking forward to renovate the ruined croft behind sandway beach so that his family could have a fresh start away from petty crime, traffic, racism and all the things that make life intolerable only to find themselves in the middle of a crime wave when his son, Danny starts playing with an imaginary friend named Hatty who is supposedly a distant ancestor of theirs.

Life isn't a fairytale and may not always end the way we want it to and thus was the life of Hatty Small, who never got to tell her story to the world. She died almost 200 years ago but now seems to be helping with the present events taking place in Portskil. People keep convincing themselves that these events are just coincidence when it truly isn't. What would you do if history repeats itself?

The author has really done a great job to keep the reader entertained. It was easy to connect with the characters and I would recommend this book to those who are terrific dreamers. This book contains foul language and are not recommend for kids. I rate this 3 out of 4 and personally this is an amazing book but it goes way too impractical and dramatic.
