Everyone has the desire to become successful, but only a few, eventually, make it to the top. These are people who have understood several principles of success, thereby applying it to their daily lives. How To Be Successful is a self-help, motivational book that exposes readers to various ways on how to be a leader successful in life. The author, M. Curtis McCoy, shares fifteen interview questions of six entrepreneurs from various fields ranging from a pastor, CMO, musician, US Navy SEAL sniper, publisher, and authors.

In addition to these interviews, Curtis added some advice that relates to relationships, money, our attitudes, and several other exciting topics. Also, he shared his challenges, and how he was able to overcome them, to become a successful entrepreneur.

There were lots of things I liked about this book. I liked that the various individual interviews didn't come sequentially. After each interview, the author added a few, essential chapters before the next interview. This improved my appreciation of the book.

Similarly, I loved how the author balanced success and God. He made certain scriptural references while discussing some topics he raised. I find this very fulfilling.

One of the persons interviewed in this book defined success using 7 "F words". I was amused at that, and I enjoyed reading that part. You will have to read this book to find out what these words are.

I came across some wonderful quotes while reading. For example, the author quoted Edmond Mbiaka's speech, which read thus: "It’s impossible to notice how blessed you are if you are always focusing on your weaknesses and obstacles." These quotes are what I liked most about this book.

I had an issue identifying where a chapter ends because there was no indication to show the beginning of a new chapter. This, at a point, confused me. It made me read two chapters as one. Also, while reading a particular chapter, "Does Using Profanity Make you seem more successful", I discovered a subtopic that didn't rhyme with its content. For instance, a subtopic, "How Do I Want To Influence Others", has the following content. "Gallant Dill commented on how the world is a rough place, and profanity is used everywhere. He mentioned that it’s a lie to protect your kids from swearing. He said they’ll hear it when they’re away from you anyways." This seemed off to me thereby reducing my appreciation for this book. This is what I disliked about this book.

How To Be Successful by M. Curtis McCoy was professionally edited. Consequently, I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I would have given it a perfect rating if not for the aforementioned issues I encountered while reading. This book contains various references to the Bible. Therefore, Christian readers will find this book appealing. Also, entrepreneurs and young adults will enjoy this book as it contains valuable lessons that would help them to improve.
