You brought up an interesting point about continuity. It does seem a bit contradictory that the people of Voulhire have heated plumbing but no electricity. But maybe they just didn't have a need to invent electricity because the mages could already provide power in some ways, sort of like in Harry Potter, where the wizards don't need electricity because they can create light with their wands.

I think in Voulhire, magic is way more advanced than science. I also think it is not productive to literally compare our world with Voulhire in terms of scientific development. In a sense, they don't need technology as much as we do because they have magic.

The technology in Volhire is something that is slowed down because of magic possession. I think Tysz want to compare magic with technology just to thrill and entertain readers

Wow this is a very good observation. I was wondering why i did not notice this while reading maybe because i was hooked on the story. I loved the comments above anyway.

Correct me if in wrong but I thought the "carriage" that brought the bluish orbs to lord Eldus' residence was a steam engine. That should be your car prototype.

So I think with time, all these developments you brought up will come to be. Maybe in the subsequent books even.

I get your point here but I would say that why the book contains a genre of mystery, not everything can be understood and explained.

I didn't really think of this while reading this book. I believe it was more magic and science that science and technology.

This is a great and interesting question. I do feel that it is a combination of the old and the new, and I do not really expect the build of their technological side due to the magical abilities they possess, since they focus more on that.

What I kept in mind was that Voulhire was different from our world, so obviously their technology will not develop was rapidly as ours because they have magic as a counterpart and we don't.

I think science and technology are appropriate for the era the book is in.

I see no magic in the explanation of some equipments used in the book. Science comes in different format and they showcased theirs purely.
