Wow, this story really sounds sad! My name's Victoria, and I'd looked forward to reading a tale with my namesake as the main character. However, I'm not sure I can stomach the hard facts of her life and the other captured folks during the war. I'd rather hide and be ignorant of those historical facts than face their gut-wrenching kick because those same terrible things and even worse are happening all around us now in the present. Still, it's impressive that Victoria's situation didn't depress her to breaking point; she never gave up. Thanks for the excellent review.

The characterization of Victoria as a courageous woman who survives difficult situations during World War II seems splendid.

The horrors of Nazi Germany were not limited to the war and the concentration camps. So many more people suffered under Hitler's rule. While this is a novel, there is so much truth. I feel it's an important story to tell. Many thanks to the author!

History has so much to reveal to us! I loved the author's portrayal of the human spirit remaining strong in the midst of overwhelming trials. Thanks for stopping by!

For sure, I'm gonna put this book into my shelf. And it's good that you made a disclaimer for those who hate violences. Of course, the incidents that were mentioned to be happened in the book are little obnoxious but I guess it'll be worth reading.

I started reading this and could not get very far. I know it is fictional, but seeing how things could have happened and the violence is just more than I can tolerate. Thank you for your informative review.

The story of a captured Polish woman and a deaf-mute German girl set during WWII is my cup of coffee.

The story contains violent scenes. Victoria received physical beatings when she did not perform her duties. Etta’s mother belittled her daughter due to her handicap and destroyed her paintings. Some women were raped. The story talks about what happened to their babies. It was heartbreaking to read about the Polish women who became pregnant. These scenes were what I disliked about the book. We may be tempted to turn our eyes away from the ugly events of history. Hiding from the past does not erase it. It only makes us ignorant of what happened.
There are no words to express how heartbreaking I find this. But I also think is essential that people know about all these horrors so they are never repeated.
Thank you for your thorough review.

It's interesting view of world war II based historical fiction. There are many life being danger and living in horrible ways. At that time the world was facing Nazis crimes. But now in Myanmar we are facing 10 times worst than Nazis crimes.

Very nice review. Sounds like a sad story. Well, life can be that way sometimes. Am not a lover of historical fiction but I think Victoria's war deserves to be read. Thanks for this awesome review.
