When seemingly kind-hearted but forgetful Frank is seated next to a nervous-to-fly Helen on a ten hour plane ride, he does what he can to take her mind off of her fear. In order to do this, Frank introduces Helen to a game he likes to play on boring flights. They must pick seven passengers and guess different things about them such as their names, ages and occupations. Unsurprisingly, Frank is successful in distracting Helen from her fear. That is until they're notified that the plane is going down.

The plane crashes into the ocean, which Frank and Helen are able to survive. Together they exit the plane, saving anyone still alive. They, along with seven other passengers, manage to make it out. Imagine Frank and Helen's shock when they realize the seven other passengers are the same people from their game. Now the group of nine must survive in a raft floating in the middle of the ocean. On their journey the group must survive facing sharks, starvation, and, surprisingly, pirates. The Mystery of Flight 2222 is a thought provoking novel that will leave you questioning what kind of person you really are.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I found it to be incredibly entertaining as well as provocative. The way Thomas Neviaser writes is so capturing. He has a talent for writing characters that feel so real that it wouldn't be odd to bump into them in the middle of the street. Some even felt so real that I struggled to not hate them, but I could still feel sympathy for them. As a reader who appreciates character development slightly more than the plot, I thoroughly enjoyed that aspect of the book.

I also particularly appreciated how thought provoking it was. Thomas almost forces you to be introspective and to think about what kind of person you would be in situations like plane crashes and abductions, as well as how far you would go to survive. I enjoyed the fact that we were given backgrounds for all of the main characters. It made it a lot easier to understand the different ways in which they were behaving. I also found that the shorter chapters made it easier to be kept enthralled and paging to see what happened next. Another thing I enjoyed was the fact that this book was fantastically edited, making it even more enjoyable.

If I had a few complaints about the book they would be that I thought the beginning dragged a bit and that I was slightly disappointed by the ending. At the beginning, I found that they spent a tiny bit too much time on the plane before anything actually happened, but that could be explained as properly setting up the characters for the rest of the story. As for the ending, I was disappointed as I felt that there were some things still left up in the air and I don't particularly enjoy endings like that. However, I was not disappointed enough for it to change my opinion of the book as a whole.

This is probably one of the best books I have read in the last few months. I would be very excited to read more of Thomas' work. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.

I would recommend this book to a more mature group of readers due to the content of it as well as the strong language. I feel it would also be well suited to people who enjoy mysteries.
